Bringing Hugh Jackman's Wolverine to Deadpool 3 will be a challenging experience, star Ryan Reynolds has revealed. Putting two powerhouse characters into one frame is expected to be difficult, especially when they each have such distinct personalities. Despite that, fans are excited about the upcoming project since it was confirmed that Wolverine would be a part of the film.
Deadpool 3 filming hasn’t begun yet, and little is known about the script. However, pairing the Merc with a Mouth with Wolverine should be an interesting watch. Reynolds' Deadpool is loud and eclectic, whereas Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is more serious and practical. The only thing they have in common is that they’d rather be independent, but putting them together defeats that purpose.
Reynolds and Jackman seem to have a love-hate relationship, with the two actors constantly roasting each other on social media. Put both of their characters in the same frame, and the energy might not be too different. However, during an interview with The Wrap, Reynolds revealed that he believes it’s going to be a “tightrope walk.” He is concerned about the “collision of two pretty iconic characters” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “It’s really kind of finding a way to service both of these characters that feels extraordinarily authentic to each of them, and I think these two wrongs actually will make a right in a pretty great way,” he said.
Along with the plot, the title is still a secret. While the film is being referred to as Deadpool 3 for now, Jackman had teased the official Deadpool 3 title to be Wolverine and Deadpool during a video that he shared to roast Reynolds' performance in Spirited. Of course, neither the actors nor the studio confirmed if this is the title or another promotional tool.
Fans will remember that Jackman's Wolverine does die at the end of 2017’s Logan. However, with the Multiverse activated in the MCU, there are endless possibilities that Marvel Studios can play with. Jackman has previously confirmed that his upcoming role in Deadpool 3 will not undo his character’s fate, but this could potentially be a Wolverine from a different universe. Time will tell, but fan theories are already abuzz.
Deadpool 3 is scheduled to premiere in theaters on November 8, 2024.
