Summary

  • Ryan Reynolds believes Deadpool shouldn't join the Avengers or X-Men to maintain his character's essence.
  • Reynolds sees Deadpool as a supporting character to let others shine, like bringing back Wesley Snipes' Blade.
  • While Deadpool fits with X-Men, his chaotic humor might not align with the Avengers' serious tone.

Ryan Reynolds got candid about the future of his MCU character, Deadpool. According to the actor, the Merc with a Mouth should not make his wishes come true.

Reynolds has portrayed Deadpool in multiple movies. He made his debut as Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). However, it was widely criticized because it strayed from the source material. He reprised the role in Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018). Both films were produced under 20th Century Fox and received acclaim for being faithful to the comics. He made his official debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in the 2024 hit movie Deadpool & Wolverine. Fans loved Reynolds' Deadpool, with Deadpool 3 grossing over $1.3 billion worldwide due to its blend of humor, action and meta-commentary. In a recent interview, Reynolds was asked if Deadpool would make an appearance in any of the upcoming MCU films.

Avengers: Doomsday Could Be Making One Extremely Positive Change To The Fox X-Men Characters

A group of superheroes joining Avengers: Doomsday will reportedly have a significant upgrade in the upcoming MCU movie.

In Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool wants to become an Avenger. He wants the adventure and to be part of a team. However, Reynolds doesn't want the anti-hero to be successful in that endeavor. Reynolds sat down with the Times, and the host recounted a previous statement from the Red Notice star, who said Deadpool works best as a supporting character. Since there are tons of MCU movies coming up, including X-Men, the interviewer wanted to know if he would appear as a supporting character in any of the anticipated films. However, he wasn't keen on joining them or it will be Deadpool's end. Reynolds said:

If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or an X-Man, we're at the end. That's his wish fulfillment, and you can't give him that.

Reynolds explained that being a supporting act means letting others shine. For instance, he made a way for Wesley Snipes' Blade to return to the big screen after 20 years, and fans were delighted. Snipes debuted as the half-human, half-vampire hybrid in Blade (1998). He reprises the role in Blade II (2002) and Blade: Trinity (2004). Deadpool & Wolverine paved the way for Snipes to reprise the role again after 20 years. Deadpool 3 enabled Snipes to earn two Guinness World Records. He also brought back Chris Evans as Human Torch, his Fantastic Four character before he became MCU's Captain America, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Dafnee Keen as Laura Kinney (X-23) and gave Channing Tatum a chance to make his big screen debut as Gambit finally.

The original X-Men are joining Avengers: Doomsday. Among the confirmed mutants to appear in the upcoming Avengers films are Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), Mystique (Rebecca Romijn) and Cyclops (James Marsden). Deadpool has long-standing ties to the X-Men in the comics. Deadpool's dark humor fits with X-Men's dark and mature themes. However, he might not be good at team dynamics because Deadpool is unpredictable and the traditional X-Men missions involve strategy and diplomacy.

However, Deadpool is unlikely to fit the Avengers even if he has some affiliations with them in the Uncanny Avengers. His chaotic and R-rated humor does not align with the Avengers' serious tone. However, Deadpool is a skilled mercenary and can be an asset in battle. Despite that, his brutal and irreverent approach is not in congruence with the Avengers' heroic tone. Most importantly, Avengers films are usually PG-13, while Deadpool thrives in hard R territory. So, it's unlikely to see Deadpool in Avengers: Doomsday. However, we never say never.

Deadpool movies stream on Disney Plus.
