During the 2025 Summer Game Fest showcase, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio revealed Stranger Than Heaven, the official name of the developer's next title. Plenty of game announcements and special guests appeared during the 2025 Summer Game Fest stream, with the legendary developer Hideo Kojima and famed Hollywood star Mads Mikkelsen both taking the stage at the event. Lies of P: Overture, the prequel expansion to the popular Soulslike, was shadow dropped early in the night, and the event ended on a high note, with audiences finally treated to the reveal of Resident Evil Requiem. Fans of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the developer behind the Like a Dragon series, were also treated to some new information about the company's upcoming game.
Yakuza Fans Should Call This Hotline Number
Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio release a new Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2 and share a hotline number players can call.
At The Game Awards 2024, Ryu Ga Gotoku revealed Project Century, its next major title. The game is actually titled Stranger Than Heaven, and at Summer Game Fest, a new trailer shared more of the title's setting and gameplay. While certain parts of the game look to be set in 1915, other portions take place in 1943, implying that players will be leaping between different time periods as they explore dense Japanese locales. Unfortunately, no release window or projected platforms were shared, but given the level of polish already on display and the studio's penchant for quick turnarounds, players hope that it won't be long before it hits shelves.
Ryu Ga Gotoku's Project Century Properly Announced as Stranger Than Heaven
As expected from a Ryu Ga Gotoku title, combat seems to take a front seat in Stranger Than Heaven. However, it looks like the game will differ from the Like a Dragon series in some ways, with players being able to either kill their enemies or choose to show mercy mid-brawl. The complexities of Stranger Than Heaven's narrative also remain to be seen, but fans of the studio's other titles are hoping to see both a return to form and some bold new additions when the game finally launches.
Stranger Than Heaven could be another major win for Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, which has seen incredible success over the past few years. In March, Sega announced plans to invest in RGG, and also stated its intention to invest in the Sonic the Hedgehog and Persona franchises as well.
