An action game set in modern times would be noticeably lacking if it did not include an assortment of weapons. From guns to foam fingers, Saints Row has it all. The game features a silly side to the open-world crime genre, and by not taking itself too seriously, both the developers and the player can have a lot of fun with what weapons they use as their tool of the mayhem of choice.
Saints Row 2 has plenty of weapons to choose from and has multiple categories. This makes for a unique loadout for basically every player. However, with the abundance of weapons, there can only be some that are the very best, and the must-haves for the best players of Saints Row 2.
7 Samurai Sword
As the melee weapon of choice for The Ronin, the Samurai Sword is available to the player at the beginning of the game at Brass Knuckles. There are even some missions in Saints Row 2 where the Samurai Sword needs to be used, and it makes for a fun experience having such a great weapon from the beginning of the game.
What makes the Samurai Sword so good is not only its range, or its cool factor, but the fact that players can use the Samurai Sword whilst driving motorcycles. The concept alone of slicing opponents whilst speeding down a highway is a cool concept straight out of John Wick.
6 Pimp Cane
Adding to the ridiculous and quirky style of most of Saints Row’s design, the Pimp Cane serves as another reminder of how silly the franchise can be. What appears to be a simple pimp cane, is a lever-action 12 gauge shotgun. When equipped, the weapon can be used as an actual cane to walk around with in style.
With 116 ammo and 16 rounds per magazine, the Pimp Cane proves itself as a great shotgun, as it does better damage than any other shotgun. Cars can be exploded in 4 shots, even if the rate of fire is low. The fact that it hits like a truck, and can help the player walk in style, makes it all worth it.
5 Dual GAL 43s
As an SMG, the GAL 43 is what one would expect from a weapon of such a small size. Its rate of fire is incredibly fast, and its magazine size is an impressive 50 rounds. What makes this weapon so effective and fun is the fact that it can be dual-wielded, to deal both extra damage and increase the magazine size to a total of 100.
The gun itself is very reminiscent of the real weapon of the Uzi, a weapon prominent in a lot of films and other games. The GAL 43s can be unlocked in the Weapons Cache after completing level 3 of the Downtown district Snatch activity. This activity is well worth doing, as these dual-wielding beasts are nothing to joke about.
4 Satchel Charges
Throwable explosives can be a great weapon in any game. The area of effect from the explosion may clear out a room, or a path to continue in destruction. When it comes to Saints Row 2, a throwable explosive can be a life safer due to the high volume of carnage in the game. Enter the Satchel Charge, a thrown explosive sticky bomb that can be detonated remotely.
Satchel Charges stick to any surface that they are thrown at, which means the player does not have to worry about blowback, or the charge rolling back to explode on them. The damage is entirely powerful, and 11 Satchel Charges can be carried at once. They can even be stuck to people!
3 Dual Kobras
The Kobra already makes a distinction from the other pistols in Saints Row 2 because of its purpose as the only automatic pistol in the game. With 15 rounds per clip and 250 in the reserve, the Kobra holds the most ammo in a magazine than all the other pistols. The gun itself looks like Deckard’s gun from Blade Runner, a reference in Saints Row 4 with the DEK-RD Railpistol having a similar design.
The gun itself is highly accurate but can bolster impressive strength and power when dual wielding. Holding two Kobra pistols is deadly for any opponent facing the two barrels of such weapons for a fierce gang. Aiming is a little more difficult, but the speed and power are great to master.
2 AR-50 XMAC W/Grenade Launcher
After obtaining 3 Gold Diversion stars in Gang Kills, and at least 1 Bronze star in all Combat Tricks, players can obtain the AR-50 w/Grenade Launcher. The gun is well worth the challenge that the game asks of the player, considering the AR-50 is a great rifle, and the addition of a Grenade Launcher just makes it an absolute war machine for Saints Row 2.
With a clip size of 50 and base damage of 160, the gun proves itself as a mighty weapon of war. The Grenade Launcher attachment also uses whatever is in the Thrown inventory section for the player, meaning that an absurd amount of explosive damage can be dealt with.
1 Annihilator RPG
If action games need anything, it’s huge explosions and a ton of firepower. Luckily, Saints Row 2 provides that with a rocket launcher. The Annihilator RPG is a rocket-propelled grenade launcher. It uses laser-guided missiles that can be controlled mid-flight for precision targeting. It can also lock on to vehicles, making it a total destructor.
After completing the Mayhem activity at the Nuclear Power Plant, players will find this weapon in the Weapons Cache. With base damage of 2,000, it’s a weapon that no one would want to be on the receiving end of.
Saints Row 2 is available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
