Sakamoto Days Part 2 is officially coming in July, and fans have a lot to look forward to. While the first cour balanced slice of life and action-packed moments very well, Sakamoto Days will now enter a "full action mode" and focus more intensely on combat and tension.

Taro Sakamoto and Shin Asakura will once again have to fight hard to protect themselves and their loved ones as the mission to kill Sakamoto reaches higher stakes for professional assassins. What can we expect from the next episodes of Sakamoto Days?

Sakamoto Days: Death Row Prisoners Arc, Explained

Sakamoto Days anime has just started one of the most popular arcs of the story. What is the Death Row Prisoners arc about?

What's The Next Arc in the Sakamoto Days Anime?

Sakamoto Days Cour 1 adapted Chapters 1 through 37 of the manga. However, the production skipped a few chapters — they were all slice of life segments. Considering that action scenes often lacked movement, many fans questioned the decision to skip these parts. Since slice of life segments tend to be easier to adapt, it doesn't seem to make much sense to cut them in order to focus on something the team was likely struggling with.

Anyway, the final episode covered Chapters 35–37, the beginning of the Death Row Prisoners arc. So, logically, the second cour will continue to adapt this arc, which takes place from Chapter 32 to Chapter 54. In this arc, some death row prisoners are liberated by X and asked to kill Sakamoto. There's no need to say that this arc is all about action — in fact, slice of life segments will become rarer from now on, as the series embarks on a much more action-packed and fast-paced tone.

My daughter wants it. Nothing matters more than that.

— Taro Sakamoto

However, it seems unlikely that Sakamoto Days Part 2 will only cover this arc. There's a good chance it will also adapt the JCC Transfer Exam arc (Chapters 55–72) fully or partially. In this arc, Shin and Sakamoto try to infiltrate the JCC to obtain more information on Slur. The series could also begin adapting the JCC Infiltration arc (Chapters 73–104), which starts after Shin and Sakamoto are able to infiltrate the JCC and try to access its database.

What to Expect from the Animation Quality?

Whether it covers the JCC Transfer Exam or the following arc, Sakamoto Days Part 2 will probably be the last cour in which Lu Shaotang is a major character. Sales dropped considerably when the manga focused more on her, and this probably led Yuto Suzuki to remove her from the spotlight and introduce other characters. There's actually a fair chance that they are using Lu as a reference to decide where to end Sakamoto Days Season 1, as it would be strange if she just "vanished" in the middle of the season. In any case, she will not be a frequent character after this season.

As for the controversial animation quality, it will probably remain similar to that of Part 1. Since the second cour will be much more action-packed, there will likely be even more frequent complaints from manga fans. It's hard to imagine that the production team wouldn't have been aware of the criticism, but Part 2 was probably already in production while Part 1 aired, so there's hardly enough time to make significant changes, especially reworking scenes to make them smoother. However, fans are generally happy with the latest trailer, since they noticed a difference in the coloring and felt there was more movement in the scenes. Therefore, there may have been some changes.

When Will Sakamoto Days Part 2 Be Released?

After a long wait, the release date of Sakamoto Days Cour 2 has finally been announced. Although Netflix revealed months ago that the second cour would air in July, the service has now announced that it will be released on July 14, 2025 (Monday).

While fans shouldn't expect major changes in animation quality, they can hope that Netflix will fix one issue from the first part: episodes aired one week earlier on Netflix Japan than internationally. This caused many fans to either use a VPN or watch the latest episodes on piracy platforms — the series was still one of the most-watched shows on Netflix while it was airing, but the Japanese numbers were probably inflated by VPN users.

Where to Watch Sakamoto Days?

Sakamoto Days is a Netflix-exclusive series, and that is unlikely to change for the second cour. There could be changes in a potential second season, though it seems unlikely given the strong viewership numbers despite all the criticism from part of the fandom. If it follows the same schedule as the first part, new episodes will be added globally to Netflix every Monday, with subs and dubs in many languages. The anime also airs on Japanese TV at the same time it is added to Netflix.
