Saros is the next roguelike project from developer Housemarque, and it's already shaping up to have a compelling premise. As the creators of Returnal, Housemarque demonstrated with its last game just how effective roguelike gameplay can be as a storytelling tool. Saros promises a similar approach, but it's bound to have its own unique approaches to its story and mechanics.

Unfortunately, the wait for Saros is going to be a little bit longer. Announced back in February at Sony's latest State of Play event, the game is currently set to arrive sometime in 2026. Saros may be further away than a lot of gamers would hope for, but there is at least a potential silver lining for Housemarque fans. With reports that the PS5 is nearing the end of its lifecycle, a PS6 will eventually be on the horizon, and if Saros is successful, a Returnal remaster for a next-gen console feels like a given.

Saros and Returnal Could Bring Mind-Bending Sci-Fi to the PS6

According to Rumors, Sony's Next Console May Arrive Sooner Than Expected

The PS5 is nearly five years old now, and if leaks and theories are to be believed, then the current Sony console may not have much longer in the spotlight. There are plenty of PS6 rumors, but it's important to remember that claims like these should be met with a healthy dose of skepticism until Sony actually makes something official.

Some rumors are even going so far as to claim that the PS6 could arrive as soon as 2027. Because of the shortages that happened at launch, it sometimes feels like the PS5 just recently got here, but if a new console is waiting in the near future, then remasters are bound to happen in order to capitalize on its release.

With Nintendo raising game prices with the upcoming Switch 2 and Xbox also aiming to raise prices, it's possible that the PS6's games will also see a price hike when the console is announced.

Returnal Deserves a New Lease On Life

Granted, Returnal was successful, but it can still easily be seen as an underrated game. Not only would a PS6 remaster be a great way for fans to see the game in a fresh light, but it could also introduce a completely new audience to the emotional roguelike adventure. Also, if the success of Saros potentially makes a Returnal sequel possible, then a remaster being released before a hypothetical follow-up would only make sense.

More News About Saros is Hopefully Revealed This Year

After the release of its eye-catching cinematic trailer, Saros has raised a lot of questions regarding its story and world. Based on what little info has been given, it's clear that the game is returning to roguelike gameplay, but the mysterious planet and protagonist Arjun are incredibly intriguing.

Much of Saros' story is being kept under wraps, but Housemarque has confirmed a few things about the narrative. Protagonist Arjun Devraj finds himself on Carcosa, a space colony that is undergoing a mysterious eclipse. Housemarque states, "A key gameplay distinction between Saros and Returnal is permanent resources and progression, making every death valuable."

As the year continues, it will be exciting to see if Sony and Housemarque have any more surprises to reveal. It's more likely that another look inside Saros' world won't be revealed until next year, but there's always hope. Until then, jumping back into Returnal could be a great way to prepare oneself for the new adventure that Housemarque has in store for players.
