After obtaining the Chainsaw and unlocking the ability to cut down trees via the Tier 2 milestone in Satisfactory, players will find their biomass production speed up drastically. Trees are one of the best sources of biomass in the early game, making them supremely useful for players looking to automate their fuel production and increase their power grid capacity in the process.
Unlike leaves, however, trees are a sparser resource in Satisfactory, but not by much. Naturally, this means that once the trees in the immediate vicinity of the base are cut down, players need to venture farther afield for them. For the sake of convenience, the question arises: Do trees respawn?
Satisfactory: How To Make Reinforced Iron Plates
Making a Reinforced Iron Plate production line in Satisfactory can be tricky. Here's a guide on how to make a basic, space-efficient layout for one.
Do Trees Grow Back in Satisfactory?
The short answer is: No, trees do not respawn in Satisfactory. They are an exhaustible energy resource that can theoretically run out if a player is dedicated enough to clear out the entire map. This is not a bug but a feature. The gameplay loop is meant to push players farther out afield than the area in the immediate surroundings of their main base.
If a tree does respawn, it is likely a bug.
Additionally, this is meant as an incentive for players to start developing the technology to unlock coal faster. Coal is the mid-game resource for fuel that is meant to replace biomass energy production entirely in the later stages of the game. The ability to make Coal Generators unlocks in Tier 3 milestones after players have completed the tutorial's Tier 0, Tier 1, and Tier 2 milestones in the HUB.
In rare cases, trees cannot be cut down with the Chainsaw.
That said, there should be no rush to abandon all current activities relating to biomass production immediately in the very early game. Progress the game at a natural pace and let ADA guide you toward the next milestone until you eventually unlock Coal resources.
Until then, players' best bet is to use trees that are far away from their base or rely on leaves. It's good practice to spam the interact button whenever you're out exploring in order to pick up any leaves and wood you find lying on the ground along the way.
For players leery of venturing out from the starting grasslands, unsure if their character is ready, the desert biome is the next logical step. It offers most, if not all, of the resources found in the Grasslands, like trees and leaves, borders the sea, and offers plenty of resource points for advancing into the mid-game.
The scanner does not have the ability to scan for trees or leaves. Satisfactory expects players to identify these common resources by sight alone.
