Efficiency is something that all Satisfactory players should strive to achieve, whether it be for the production rates of their factories, or in how they use space to build their factories on. Overclocking a machine can increase its performance by over double, making this an excellent method for tweaking production numbers without expanding a factory's size.

Players who don't have much space to work with may want to consider overclocking as an option. It's cheaper than factory expansion, and if you're trying to optimize the production of materials like iron plates and rods in Satisfactory, overclocking (or underclocking) can be a very useful tool to achieve your desired results.

How To Adjust Clock Rates In Satisfactory

Overclocking using a Power Shard in Satisfactory
Satisfactory Overclocking Power Shard

Players must first research Overclocking at the MAM before they can use this feature.

In order to overclock your machines, you need to find and insert a Power Shard into them via the machine's control panel. Interact with one, and you'll see its clock speed below the main production window. If you have a Power Shard, drag and drop it into the greyed-out box under the Clock Speed window to enable overclocking.

Once the shard is installed, move the clock speed slider to the right to increase the machine's output (and energy consumption). If you want to underclock your machine, move the slider to the left until the production rate goes below 100%. Doing so is a great way to optimize power usage according to your production rate, especially for materials like Reinforced Iron Plates in Satisfactory that require a lot of machines to produce automatically.

How To Get Power Shards In Satisfactory

Like Overclocking, Power Shards must first be researched at the MAM. To research and make them, you need to find Power Slugs, which can be found all around the map. They appear as giant, colored slugs that are often resting on cliff edges.

They can be a little hard to find early on, and since they tend to be on elevated areas, make sure to bring some building materials so you can make platforms. Crafting Blade Runners in Satisfactory can help make traversal and exploration faster.

Once Power Shard research is complete and an extra Power Slug has been acquired, you can craft a Power Shard at a crafting bench, or you can have a Constructor make one for you. After that, it's all a matter of picking what machines deserve to get overclocked.

Blue Power Slugs are the most basic and common variant you can find. You need one to finish Power Slug research and another to create the Power Shard needed to research Overclocking. Yellow and purple slugs can also be found in the wild, and they're needed for their own research projects. Alternatively, you can use them to make more Power Shards than usual.
