Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has enjoyed an absolutely incredible run over the course of the last few weeks, and fans have been delighted with how Gege Akutami, the author of the series, has been handling things. While the new protagonists are growing on the fans slowly, such as Yuka and Tsurugi, fans also know that there exists a very compelling enemy group — that of the Simurians. The Simurian King looks to be an absolute menace and someone who's actually already been compared to Sukuna on more than one occasion.

Characters like Cross are also quite interesting, as is Maru, although he's more of an ally to the protagonists than anything. Undoubtedly, Gege has done incredibly well when it comes to writing very exciting new characters, but fans certainly do the old cast, especially the Strongest Modern Sorcerer, Gojo Satoru. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that Gojo Satoru was the heartbeat of Jujutsu Kaisen. As it so happens, Gege Akutami is trying to recreate Gojo Satoru in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo through a different character, and it is none other than Maru, the newly introduced Simurian.

Gojo died a very tragic death in the battle against the King of Curses, and at the same time, fans also know that 68 years have passed since the events of the Shinjuku Showdown, which means at this point, even if bringing Gojo back was possible, it serves no purpose at all.

That said, Gege doesn't necessarily have to bring back Gojo in a traditional way. A revival is off the cards, but Gojo can be reintroduced in the series by creating a character just like him. Sure, Gojo's character design was a part of his appeal, but it was mostly down to how he acted and the way Gege wrote him.

Based on how things are going at the moment, it seems that Gege Akutami is writing Maru in a way very similar to Gojo Satoru, and that is quite interesting. Firstly, Maru is a rather cheerful personality who loves to goof around. But, that's not all he is. Despite his apparent stupidity, Maru actually possesses tremendous hidden strength. He's similar to Gojo in that sense. Of course, he isn't the strongest, but fans have been quick to note that his heartwarming and somewhat childish behavior resembles Gojo a lot, especially from the days of Hidden Inventory.

Maru's Brother Cross Resembles Sukuna A Lot

Interestingly enough, Maru isn't the only character that Gege seems to have taken inspiration from his old manga. Maru's older brother, Cross, seems to be his complete opposite. He is incredibly stoic and appears to be rather rude at times. He is confident of his strength, and it appears that he is equal to Maru in terms of strength. In other words, it seems that Maru and Cross mirror each other, which makes many fans believe that Cross is actually based on the character of Sukuna. To be fair, this assessment makes sense. Gege Akutami must be aware of the incredible popularity of the characters of Gojo and Sukuna, and as such, it doesn't come as a shock to anyone to know that he could've taken inspiration for Maru and Cross from Gojo and Sukuna.

Jujutsu Kaisen is currently one of the biggest shonen series in the world. The manga, which ended in late 2024, can be read online for free. It is available to access on Manga Plus, where this series used to be made available weekly. Jujutsu Kaisen currently has a sequel, called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, which runs in the Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 3 will be released on September 21, 2025.
