The highly anticipated Cartel update for Schedule 1 is now officially available on the game's Steam beta branch. After a handful of short delays, Schedule 1 players can now jump into the game's biggest update to date, which adds a powerful rival cartel gang known as the Benzies family. While the patch is currently only available on the game's beta branch, all players can participate if they wish to test out the update before its full release.
Schedule 1 has cemented itself as not only one of the biggest indie titles of the year, but also as one of the biggest games of the year, full stop. Developed by one singular developer, Schedule 1 managed to surpass 459,000 concurrent players in just its first few days. While Tyler, the game's creator, has released a steady stream of smaller updates, fans were given the opportunity to choose the first major content update for Schedule 1 earlier this year. Players could vote in-game between three options: the Cartel update (which emerged victorious), a police expansion update, or a Shrooms update, which would have added a brand-new drug type to the game.

Schedule 1 Cartel Update Now Available in Beta
After delaying the major Schedule 1 update from the end of July, Tyler has finally made the big Cartel patch available via the game's beta branch. This has undoubtedly been the most anticipated update since the game's launch earlier this year, and for good reason. According to the official patch notes for the new Schedule 1 update, which can be found further down this article, the update adds a powerful rival cartel known as the Benzies family. Players will need to progress through the game before they encounter the rival cartel, but when they do, expect tons of new features, including ambushes, dead-drop theft, dealer robbings, the ability to deal with the cartel while under a truce, and more.
As of writing, there isn't a confirmed launch date for the update's full release, but the Steam page does state that the current beta is due to end on Friday, August 15. While it looks like the update could be fully released by the end of the week, those who want to jump in as soon as possible will want to sign up for the Schedule 1 beta branch on Steam. To do so, simply head to Steam, right-click the game, navigate to Properties, then select Betas and change the Beta Participation to Beta. However, it is worth noting that the update is in beta for a reason, as there could be some bugs and glitches that need to be rectified before the full release, so fans should remain cautious.
The update also appears to be making some major gameplay adjustments, as the official patch notes explain how players will now unlock new regions based on "cartel influence." According to the change log, players must reduce this influence to a certain level before they can progress to the next region. Also included in the update is a brand new property for players to purchase: Hyland Manor. The popular Schedule 1 property was first discovered all the way back in April, but players can now finally purchase it for themselves after completing the Benzies family storyline.

- Unconscious NPCs who drop into the ocean are now killed.
- Dead/unconscious NPCs can now be pickpocketed.
- You can now pickpocket police.
- If you attack a customer, they will not order from you for 72 hours.
- Tweaks the braking properties of all vehicles.
- Non-police NPCs can now use ranged weapons.
- Police and NPCs in combat will now sometimes predict future target position instead of pathing directly to the target.
