After a long wait and a few short delays, the cartel has finally been added to Schedule 1. Version 0.4.0 introduces a brand-new questline which sees players square off against the Benzies family: a shadowy crime syndicate that has been secretly pulling the strings in Hyland Point.

Completing all of the new Cartel Update content will take returning players around half an hour. However, for anyone new to Schedule 1, the process can take significantly longer due to the need to build up influence around town. Here's everything you need to know.

How to Start the Cartel Update in Schedule 1

Before players can start the Cartel Update, they'll first need to unlock the Westville area of Hyland Point. After doing so, they'll receive a message from Thomas Benzies asking them to meet him in the parking lot next to Taco Ticklers. It's worth noting that returning players will need to sleep in order to get the message from Thomas, so those having trouble triggering it should find themselves a bed. Once they've received the invitation, it's a simple case of heading over to Taco Ticklers and speaking with the man in the black SUV.

Should You Accept or Refuse the Cartel's Deal?

Thomas will offer players a deal. They can either work for the cartel or go to war with it. Working for the cartel will require players to provide a certain amount of product each week at around half its market value. They'll also need to refrain from doing business outside of Northtown and Westville. If players refuse the deal, cartel members will begin to hassle their dealers, stealing cash, product, or, in some cases, both. Despite the potential for losses, players should refuse the deal.

Whether or not players lose resources appears to be completely random. Quite often, their dealers will be able to resist the cartel, resulting in no money or product being lost.

How to Defeat the Cartel in Schedule 1 (Finishing the Job Walkthrough)

Rejecting Thomas' deal will result in players going to war with the cartel and the Benzies family. To defeat them, players will need to build up their influence around the Hyland Point area by meeting new customers and moving as much product as possible. After a while, they'll unlock the "Finishing the Job" main story mission, which can be triggered by talking to Uncle Nelson at a payphone. Returning players may well find that the mission is already unlocked.

Nelson will explain that the Benzies are holed up at Hyland Manor and go over his plan to get rid of them once and for all. Players will then need to head over to Thompson Construction & Demo to get Sam to dig access to the tunnel under Hyland Manor, for which they'll need to pay him $10,000. They'll also need to talk to Billy at the chemical plant about buying explosives. He has no interest in cash, but will be happy to trade some RDX for 20 grams of the white stuff.

Once they've made the trade with Billy, players should head to the warehouse and talk to Stan about turning the RDX into a bomb. Before agreeing to do so, he'll ask that they kill a thief who keeps stealing his supplies. The thief in question is often seen at the docks at night, so players should make their way there and do what needs to be done. They can then return to the warehouse and get Stan to turn the RDX into a bomb.

The thief is armed with a handgun, so players should be sure to bring a weapon with them to the docks.

If they haven't already done so, players should sleep, which will trigger a message from Sam to say that the tunnel is now ready. They can then make their way over there and plant the bomb under Hyland Manor. 45 seconds later, there'll be a massive explosion and the manor will go up in flames, bringing an end to the cartel. Players will get a message to say that the Benzies family has been defeated, after which, they'll be able to purchase Hyland Manor for themselves.
