Taking place in the same world as 2018's The Messenger, Sea of Stars is the new mystic role-playing combat game chronicling the ventures of Zale and Valere, taking place 1000 years prior to the events of its predecessor. Sea of Stars upgraded the typical retro-style puzzle and combat genres with time paradoxes, true elements of alchemy, secret riddles, and an incredible soundtrack.

In addition to recipes, weapons, relics, and other items that can be collected throughout the game, the armor equipped for each character proves essential. Ranging from physical to mystic and even psychological defense, the armor in Sea of Stars is a homage to retro 90s combat and world exploration games such as Illusion of Gia.

6 Thalassic Cloak

Total Defense: +58

Conjured by an old wizard of decades past, the Thalassic Cloak can be found in a treasure trove during The Tower of Antsudlo adventure. This armor is provided only to the nimble and brainy assassin, Serai. Throughout the Tower of Antsudlo, players can use this cloak's mysterious nature and sleek design to enhance Serai's defense as she jumps through portals.

The Thalassic Cloak brings a whimsical twist to the typical options for Serai. The best use of the cloak shines in Serai's combat attacks. Players can use the cloak's ancient magic as a guide during puzzle-solving, and as a bewildering delay to an enemy's attack.

5 Miner's Smock

Total Defense: +30

Players can use the miner's smock for undercover ventures for one of the central characters: Garl, a tender warrior and cook. This armor can be bought from a merchant in the wizard-stricken Wind Tunnel Mine or the crafty Stonemasons Outpost. The miner's smock, created from unknown elements, helps characters move seamlessly through the magical intensity of the Wind Tunnel Mine's chapter.

The miner's smock is a strong safeguard that uses commonality against enemies, increasing defense against the evil wizard Malkomud's mystic attacks. The Wind Tunnel Mine is filled with monsters, and Garl doesn't have many magical powers to use against such threats. The Miner's Smock works and maintains secrecy while keeping its wearer protected from magic. This smart and simple armor is perfect for Garl, aiding him in most of his journeys throughout Mesa Island.

4 Mage Knight Armor

Total Defense: +53

The mage knight armor can be obtained in the Red Crystal Room of the Abandoned Wizard’s Lab. Earned through main characters, Solstice Warriors Valere and Zale, players must tackle the enigma of magical switches to acquire this ceremonial robe. Sticking to the powerhouse elements of mages, the Mage Knight Armor combines valor and dauntlessness with mystic moxie, making it a solid tool to keep handy.

Unlike other elite armor, the Mage Knight Armor protects Zale or Valere against intense orb barrages or shapeshifting attacks in their battle with the Chromatic Apparition. Depending on their enemy's form, the Mage Armor with its unknown origin can offer protection benefits.

3 Spectral Cape

Total Defense: +42

There's nothing more ethereal than an elegant cape in a spooky palace. In the Necromancer's Lair or the Haunted Mansion chapter, players can find the mysterious Spectral Cape in a treasure trove. Fans can indulge in ghostly aesthetics if they choose the Necromancer's Lair for the journey. Skulls, bones, and grime greenery surround the characters.

After reaching three green skulls, delving into their respective puzzles, and warding off enemies like the Revenant, players gain the Spectral Cape. The cape is a wild card piece of armor filled with conscious magic that demands mastery to utilize effectively, or else the cape can overrun the wearer. Embodying the haunted mansion of spirits, the spectral cape enables the wearer to fend off difficult attacks such as the Spectral Scythes.

2 Adventurer's Vest

Total Stat Boost: +10

This vest guides and protects characters as they explore the Forbidden Cavern and encounter the Bosslug Boss. The Adventurer's Vest is another tool found in a treasure chest halfway through the Forbidden Cavern chapter. Players will appreciate the perplexity of the puzzles involved in obtaining this stable Sea of Stars armor.

Its defense may be lower, but it's one of the most accessible pieces of armor. Garl, Serai, Zale, and Valere can wear the Adventurer's Vest. Players find it along the Mountain Trail and Sunglow Lake. The vest pairs well with other relics and level-ups earned during this part of the game. Skills such as Mending Light and items like the Leeching Thorn accompany the Adventurer's Vest in the characters' trek to the end of the Forbidden Cavern quest.

1 Azure Cape

Total Defense: +72

Air Elemental Skyland embodies the classic retro-combat game look. It's also the location of the Azure Cape. Available for characters such as the true Alchemist, Resh'an, and Garl, the Azure Cape works with players' bodies as a magical and psychological defense.

Featuring dreamlike patterns, the Azure Cape is a mesmerizing piece of armor, boosting a player's defense by a total of +72.. When conquering foes like SlingRabbit and Braidzard, players can rely on the elemental magic of the Azure Cape to get through the assortment of Indiana Jones-esque puzzles. The surrounding crystals and mirrors enhance the Azure Cape's magical defense, particularly in Resh'an and Serai's case.
