Sea of Stars is quite a large classic-style JRPG. In it, players will have to complete a lot of quests, save NPCs, build towns, and more. One of the many end-game side quests involves an undead character players meet in an earlier chapter: Duke Aventry.

After most of the game is complete, and there's little to do other than collect all the Rainbow Conches or kill the Fleshmancer, one of the friendly NPCs players have been traveling with will ask for the Duke to be freed as a favor. In order to get it done, though, players will have to travel around the world.

Duke Aventry in Sea of Stars

In Sea of Stars, Duke Aventry is the undead servant of the Romaya, forced to serve for all time when the necromancer raised him from the dead. He cannot remember much of his previous life, and he seems to be saddened by this. During an earlier part of the story, players have to defeat Romaya and grab the Green Flame and the Soul Stone from her to save Garl. However, this isn't the last time players will see this villain.

In the Port Town of Brisk in Sea of Stars, there is a game to play called Edwards Bonus Spin Roulette that seems unwinnable and like a scam.

Getting the Quest to Save Duke Aventry

During the end game, after Zale and Valere can fly, they will be tasked with various quests from all the NPCs they have been traveling with. This includes B'st asking for entry into the Coliseum, Serai asking for help killing the Gun Goddess, and even a quest from Hortence the friendly pirate ghost; she'll ask that Zale and Valere free the fellow undead Aventry from his bonds.

If players complete all these quests before ending the game, they will earn the true ending of Sea of Stars. After chatting with Hortence, head to any inn or tavern and have a conversation with Yolande. She'll have an idea of where to look for Romaya, and she'll mark that spot on the map.

If players head to that spot on the map, they'll find Romaya's Secret Passage, securely locked. Interact with the locked door, and the Sea of Stars main characters Zale or Valere will recommend heading to Yomara's home to ask about her sister Romaya and how to get inside this secret cave. She will tell the party that there is an entrance somewhere in the Flooded Graveyard itself.

The Puzzle Solution for Romaya's Secret Passage in Sea of Stars

There are three runes inside the Flooded Graveyard's cave; these three runes are always the same for every playthrough, and appear to be the same colors as well. Players of this old-school-style JRPG can either take a screenshot of the three runes, or check them out below:

Head back to the locked cave in front of Romaya's Secret Passage, and use the Mistral Bracelet to spin the pillars until the three runes match the same layout and design as they do on the wall of the cave. Next, spin the central fan until the colors of the runes are also correct: red, green, and then purple. Once the colors of the runes, their positions, and the shape of the runes all match, both the cave and the door to the treasure will open. Enter the cave, and it will bring the party back to the cave in the Flooded Graveyard. Fight off the graveyard monsters in turn-based combat; they should be very easy at this point in the game. Pick up the treasure, then walk outside the cave.

Give the Duke Romaya's Journal, which was inside that chest. It will have things written in it in his handwriting, which will help some of his memories return, adding to the already abundant Sea of Stars lore. This will give the player the Yellow Flame, which can be brought to the Ferryman to reach a new location.

The Half-Sunken Tower Walkthrough

Sea-Of-Stars-How-To-Free-Duke-Aventry-07

The Yellow Flame brings players of this classic JRPG-inspired game to a location called the Half-Sunken Tower. It is a decrepit part of the world, made of all broken-down docks and buildings. If players hop across the broken docks and find a raft, they can use it to sail east; this is where the Tower itself is located. Use the upper docking place on the left side of the Tower to pull the lever, dropping wood on the front door of the Tower.

Next, sail back down to the entrance of the Half-Sunken Tower; there will be a campfire and a save book there to use. Climb into the Tower via the broken wood, and head inside. Romaya the Necromancer will be waiting, and players should make sure to tell her that the party plans to free the Duke, even if it's over her dead body. She'll mention the locket that ties Aventry to the Flooded Graveyard, and Zale and Valere will demand it.

Unfortunately, Romaya isn't the type to just give up something that valuable, so players will have to fight her for it. This fight is going to be very similar to the first fight, and Romaya will bring some undead help in the form of piles of guts and bones that she resurrects when she needs them. Players will want to bring plenty of Sea of Stars snacks to stay at high HP. Make sure to take out the bone and viscera piles along with her cohorts as quickly as possible. Her breakable attacks are also pretty painful, so try to get rid of them before she can hit the party with them.

How to Free Duke Aventry in Sea of Stars

After defeating Romaya for the second time, she will give up the amulet. Once Zale and Valere have the amulet in hand, it's time to find Duke Aventry again. This time, he will be in front of the house where players first fought Romaya. Chat with him, and he will give up a Key before disappearing. He's finally free, and he left some treasure for the adventurers that saved him. This will get players the Sea of Stars Achievement or Trophy called Free From Serviduke.

The key is his tomb, which is located right inside the southern entrance to the house he was standing in front of. This will get the party an Eclipse Armor for either Zale or Valere, and the Aventry Crest, which is for Teaks.

Sea of Stars is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
