Sea of Stars is an adventure game that is filled to the brim with challenging enemies. In order to get through to the main part of this old-school-style JRPG, players will have to take on the boss of the tutorial, a cloud man named Elder Mist.
He is a sage, cloud-like being that is testing the three new heroes to see how well they have trained. He also teaches them a new skill, and then takes them on in battle. Once Elder Mist is defeated, the main game can begin, but players will have to successfully take him down first.
The Elder Mist Fight in Sea of Stars
After completing the prologue of Sea of Stars, Valere and Zale have completed their training and have gathered once again with their childhood friend Garl. They set out together, and they come across a being called Elder Mist who seems to think that the three of them can save the world. But he first needs to test them and teach them to cast magic without magic. After the three puzzles, there is a boss battle with this cloud-like creature, and players will have to use Magic without Magic to win.
Using Magic Without Magic to Defeat Elder Mist in Sea of Stars
When the player of this imaginative puzzle JRPG uses a base attack against any creature, they will create tiny orbs of power. Once there are some orbs of power on the field, that character can use the absorb button to take them in and use them to enhance their next attack. During the three puzzle areas in the Elder Mist's arena, players come across little monsters they will need to kill, but none will take the power needed to take down the Elder Mist.
The first thing players will need to do is to take out that weapon on the right side of the Elder Mist. If one of the three heroes hits the Elder Mist without taking down the weapon first, they will get hit with a counter-attack swing that can do up to 20 HP to everyone at the Sea of Stars level their characters will be at this time. This is not a great way to get through the fight; thankfully the weapon is pretty quick to take down even with just basic attacks as it doesn't have much HP. It will regenerate every few turns; make sure to kill it as quickly as possible each time it comes back.
Once the weapon is dealt with, it's time to focus on this first boss of many in this 25-hour-long game called Sea of Stars. He is a very powerful being, so make sure to keep a close watch on the charge move list. His charge move is a Healing Mist that will take him back up to full HP, so it's very important to make sure to interrupt his charge move when it pops up on the screen. Keep using basic attacks until the charge meter shows up, then use the Magic without Magic to hit him the number and types of times needed to interrupt his heels.
This Sea of Stars character has one last attack; it's a fist smash. It only hits one character, and players can use the block timer to reduce the damage it deals. Depending on the difficulty level the player is using, it can do up to about 20 damage without blocking but will be about halved if blocked.
If players are careful during the turn-based combat of this Sea of Stars battle, they should have no trouble downing this boss and moving on from the tutorial into the real world. Make sure to learn the lessons of this boss well, as they will be needed in the future against other bosses as well.
Sea of Stars is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
