Even though a big new content update for the game had just launched, Sea of Thieves developer Rare is already looking towards its next major event. Except, this time, it's going to be all about celebrating the game's previous successes and achievements.
Having initially launched back in 2018, Sea of Thieves is about to celebrate its fourth anniversary on March 20th, and what better way to do so than to host a special celebratory event for all players to participate in. Various special prizes and cosmetics are already announced, as well as an all-new batch of thematically-appropriate content to go along with the festivities.
While the game received some critique about its handling of the now-removed Sea of Thieves Arena achievements and progression, the community has been inundated with entirely new content as part of the game's sixth season. On top of all of that, Sea of Thieves is now also going to run a special Gold and Glory event from March 18 to March 21, allowing players to cash in loot for double the XP. All players who log in during those days will also receive the unique Golden Sailor Ship's Wheel, to properly mark the occasion.
Particularly cheerful players will also have the opportunity to purchase the special Golden Sailor Cannon Flare from Larrina, or the Merchant Alliance's Anniversary Fireworks Crate. Either of these will serve players well on their quest to plunder the latest Sea of Thieves' Fort Raid content in style. Back at the Pirate Emporium, players will also be able to purchase a variety of featured items at steep discounts.
For players thrilled with all the new Sea of Thieves Season 6 content, and who might wish to take their appreciation of the game into the real world, Rare will also be offering 20% discounts on select Sea of Thieves items (shirts, mugs, etc.) As well as a wide variety of new items. Highlights include new shoes and sneakers, Volume 3 of the game's Shanty Selects soundtrack releases, and more.
Finally, Rare also used this opportunity to announce the release of the next Sea of Thieves Adventure live event, Forts of the Forgotten, which is slated to come out on March 24th. Dedicated players should, therefore, have a rather eventful second half of March both in-game and in the real world.
Sea of Thieves is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
