In Sea of Thieves, Captain Flameheart is on the move again and seeks to rally more followers to his cause. In Sea of Thieves' Followers of the Flame Voyage, you must track down and resurrect Flameheart's long-lost Order of Bone and Blade skeletons using a special lantern and ritual. It's also another Reaper's Bones voyage added in Sea of Thieves Season 16, leading to a unique reward and some smaller treasure items.

Sea of Thieves: Complete Fishing Guide
For those looking to make the most of fishing in Sea of Thieves, this guide provides a complete rundown on the activity and how it works.
Completing Followers of the Flame also gives you the Chest of Bones, a piece of loot that you can sell or utilize to get your own skeletal band of followers.
How to Start Followers of the Flame in Sea of Thieves
To start Followers of the Flame in Sea of Thieves, you need to select and vote for it from the Reaper's Voyage menu, using the Quest Table on your ship. Doing so automatically adds the Reaper's Mark flag to your ship, meaning you'll be visible on the map to all other players until you either complete or cancel the voyage. Followers of the Flame can take around 45 minutes to an hour to complete, depending on how long it takes you to find and resurrect Flameheart's skeletons, plus cash in any rewards on completion.
Followers of the Flame is only available to play when sailing in High Seas, so you won't be able to do it in Safer Seas. You can also complete the Ashen Followers of the Flame Voyage, which is the same voyage but specific to the Devil's Roar map region. However, it can be a more challenging area to navigate.
Meet the Contact (Location Changes)
To get started, open the quest using the radial menu to check your first objective and tell you where to go from the picture and text instructions. The quest island location varies each time, such as Shipwreck Bay, which you can choose to sail or dive to, but the core objectives are the same.
The first step in Followers of the Flame is to meet the contact on the island specified in the quest. Once on the island, the contact you need to search for is a Reaper parrot using the clues in the quest, such as 'near the west cage on Shipwreck Bay,' as pictured above. In this case, you'll need to search for the west cage, but using your compass can help.
When you get close to the parrot, it also starts cawing to let you know you're looking in the right place. Whichever island you're on, you'll find the Reaper parrot on top of a wooden stand with a glowing red lantern, as shown above. Once you've found the Reaper parrot, interact with the red lantern on the stand to pick up the Followers of the Flame lantern, a special lantern in Sea of Thieves to help you track down Flameheart's skeletal servants.

Dig Up the Order of Bone and Blade Skeletons (How to Use the Red Lantern)
After equipping the Followers of the Flame red lantern from the radial menu, raise it to help you track down the location of buried Bone and Blade Skeletons via a heartbeat sound that increases when you get closer. The lantern's flame also glows brighter and bigger when you get nearer. The video below shows how to use the red lantern to do this:
When you've found the right location, the lantern also emits a pulsing red circle leading you to either a cracked dig spot on the ground containing the Bone and Blade skeleton or a skeletal arm poking out of the ground.
Dig up the skeleton using your shovel, and interact with it to bring it back to life. There are also more skeletons to find and resurrect before you can begin the ritual. While some players are reporting three Order of Bone and Blade skeletons marked 'Followers of the Flame' or another random name to find and dig up in total, we had to dig up five skeletons overall in both the Followers of the Flame and Ashen Followers of the Flame Voyages to proceed to the next step.
The Followers of the Flame skeletons will also help you fight off any enemies, help dig up their buddies, and dig for other treasure, like different Reaper Urns. You can also hand treasure to them to carry, saving you the trouble of retrieving it later.

Find the Chest of Bones and Complete the Ritual
The final step in Followers of the Flame is to find the Chest of Bones, which the Followers of the Flame skeletons will lead you to once you've dug up enough of them. At this point in the voyage, Ancient Warriors will also appear to try to stop you from finding the chest. After dealing with the Warriors, follow the skeletons to the Chest of Bones location, which the skeletons will also help dig up.
To begin the ritual, interact with the Chest of Bones to seal it, which shuts most of the Followers of Flame skeletons inside and completes the Followers of the Flame voyage, lowering the Reaper's mark on your ship.
You might also have a couple of skeletal stragglers left that you can use to help transport other treasure items you might have picked up during the voyage back to your ship.
Followers of the Flame Voyage Rewards in Sea of Thieves (Chest of Bones)
Completing the ritual in Followers of the Flame rewards you with the Chest of Bones, a different type of Reaper's Bones chest. You can sell it to the Reapers for 9,000 gold at base value and an increased reputation with the Reapers. Alternatively, you can break the seal on the Chest of Bones to summon skeletons to help you. You also get increased reputation with the Reapers for completing the voyage.
The Chest of Bones also has a skull and crossbones map marker on the map table, so other players will also be able to see it. However, unlike other Reaper Chests, you can only get the Chest of Bones from completing the Followers of the Flame voyage, making it a unique reward specifically tied to the quest. Additionally, you can also cash in the various Reaper Urns dug up during the quest, which are worth around 4-5,000 gold each.
