When Rare first launched Sea of Thieves a couple of years ago, the game was met with a middling reception. Since then, however, Sea of Thieves has grown in popularity, with the game becoming a big hit with Twitch streamers and new content updates changing public opinion about it. Now it seems even more players will have the chance to try Sea of Thieves, as Microsoft has confirmed that the game is coming to Steam.

Sea of Thieves Steam release date has yet to be announced, but Microsoft has promised that the game is coming to Steam soon. Better yet, Sea of Thieves on Steam will launch with all the major content updates that have been released for Windows Store and Xbox One versions of the game. This way, Steam players will be able to experience a fully-featured version of Sea of Thieves as opposed to the bare bones original release.

It's also been confirmed by Microsoft that the Sea of Thieves Steam port will have cross-play support. With cross-play, Sea of Thieves should be able to grow its online community even further, though it's likely that players will be able to opt-out if they so desire.

Sea of Thieves players opting out of cross-play has been a point of contention in the community in the past, so hopefully it is able to avoid too much backlash. In any case, Steam players should stay tuned for more information on the Sea of Thieves port, particularly when it comes to its release date.

Sea of Thieves is out now for PC and Xbox One.
