Near the end of Chapter 2-4 in Monster Hunter Wilds, you'll end up seeing The Black Flame for the first time, but of course, the terrifying monster has retreated beneath the Everforge, which is at the bottom of the Basin. To wrap up the Long-Forgotten Flame questline, your main objective is to 'Search for the Black Flame.'
If you're like me, you're probably struggling to find The Black Flame. Alma doesn't really tell you exactly how to reach the monster, so this guide will show you how to locate The Black Flame in Monster Hunter Wilds. (Do better, Alma!)

How to Search for the Black Flame: Monster Hunter Wilds
If you're at the home base of the Basin (which you should be at once this quest objective appears), go ahead and open your map and scroll southwest to find Area 7 of the Basin. This is not where The Black Flame is, but it's the start of how to reach it.
Go ahead and click in the right stick to place a waypoint somewhere in the area if you want to have your Mount follow the path automatically. It doesn't matter which item on the map you choose, just head to area 7.
Once you arrive, you'll start to see some things left behind by The Black Flame that you can investigate, such as Half-Digested Food, Oilmucus, and Tracks. After a couple of seconds, the Scoutflies will be given the monster's scent, so now, it'll actually show up on your map for you to track down.
The Black Flame showed up in Area 15 for us. Just open your map, find the monster, and pin it so that your mount can lead you straight to it. If your Seikret isn't moving where you want it to go, just press the up button on the directional pad for auto-navigation.
Once you finally reach The Black Flame, you'll have to Hunt it down once and for all. Upon defeat, players will be rewarded with three Appraisal Items. It should be the same for all players, but we received Blast, Def Lock, and Survival Jewel Decorations. These can be set into some equipment for skill bonuses. You'll also get 9000z (if you didn't faint).
If you need some tips as to how to take care of The Black Flame, otherwise known as Nu Udra, here are some tips:
-
- Weak to Water element
- You can douse its flames with watermoss
- All of its arms can be cut off
- Its mouth is its weak point
- Very susceptible to Poison, Sleep, Stun, and Exhaust
- You can use traps on it, but no Flash or Sonic Bombs
