A prominent Sega leaker has provided fans with updates regarding the retro title revivals that were previously announced at The Game Awards 2023. Sega made a surprise announcement during the December 2023 event, where the developer revealed several in-development remakes for many of its classic franchises. The IPs that were revealed to be getting revivals included Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, and Golden Axe. While the company has not revealed any specific details about these games, there have been a number of leaks over the past few months.

These leaks have mostly come from gaming insider Midori, an accurate and reliable insider regarding Sega's recent releases. She had previously claimed that Sega has more than one revival for games like Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio, with one revival for the latter being a remake and another being a reboot with Games-as-a-Service elements such as online multiplayer. Midori has recently revealed more information about these reboots and some of the possible release plans.

Sega Leaker Teases New Nintendo Game in Development

New rumors are surfacing about an upcoming Nintendo game from a source with a good track record for leaking Persona and other Sega information.

In a new set of tweets from Midori, she clarified that the Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi remakes are being developed with most of the original staff and that these remakes are being developed using Unreal Engine 5. These remakes are supposedly slated to release before the Games-as-a-Service style reboots that she previously leaked. The remakes are also planned to be very similar to the original games but will have new features, such as multiplayer for the Crazy Taxi remake. There is also cosmetic day-one DLC planned for these remakes, but there are no expansion passes planned. Midori also noted that these titles shouldn't be confused with the aforementioned live service reboots.

Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi Plans According to Midori

Midori also revealed some of the setbacks and release plans that Sega had for these titles, stating that the Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio revivals had previously been delayed twice, which included the original release dates. She also disclosed that the previous plan was for the Jet Set Radio remake and reboot to be released in 2026, with the Crazy Taxi revival releasing sometime in 2027. Midori also stated that the Golden Axe revival was supposed to be released as an individual title last year, as marketing materials had been made for it, but these plans obviously changed as well.

While these five games are still quite a way off from release, Sega supposedly has other revivals in the works other than just the ones revealed previously. These revivals included Alex Kidd, Altered Beast, House of the Dead, and more. Regardless of Midori's past accuracy, fans should still take these claims with a grain of salt until more official information is revealed.
