Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is officially getting a Crunchyroll-exclusive anime adaptation, titled Sekiro: No Defeat, as revealed at Gamescom 2025. Released in 2019, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is one of FromSoftware's most decorated releases, having received widespread acclaim.
Following in the footsteps of other video games, such as Castlevania and Devil May Cry, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is set to receive an anime of its own. The action-adventure game was a smash hit, both critically and commercially, and won FromSoftware the first of its two Game of the Year awards given by The Game Awards. Earlier in August, a certain web domain registration hinted at the existence of Sekiro's anime adaptation, and the project has now finally been confirmed.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Anime Adaptation Coming to Crunchyroll
During the Opening Night Live event at Gamescom, Sekiro: No Defeat was unveiled for the first time, alongside a 2026 release window. The action-packed trailer showed fans the anime version of Wolf, voiced by Daisuke Namikawa, and also revealed some glimpses of intense sword-fighting and gore present in the upcoming adaptation. Other characters that appear in the clip are Kuro, The Divine Heir (voiced by Miyuki Satou), and Genichiro Ashina (voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda). A collective effort of Kadokawa, Qzil.la, Crunchyroll, and ARCH, Sekiro: No Defeat is scheduled to stream exclusively on Crunchyroll all over the world, except in Japan, China, Russia, Korea, and Belarus. Notably, the project is headed by Director Kenichi Kutsuna, whose experience spans across highly popular anime, including One Punch Man and Naruto: Shippuden.
According to Kutsuna, this reimagining of FromSoftware's game will not only cater to existing fans but also to newcomers. Kutsuna said that the project was being developed into a "truly memorable experience" that would "leave a lasting impression" on all viewers, regardless of their familiarity with the IP. Moreover, the Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice anime adaptation features completely hand-drawn scenes, created under the supervision of Art Director Yuji Kaneko, who has previously worked on well-received anime series such as 2023's Heavenly Delusion.
With Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice set to become the latest video game to be adapted into an anime, it will be interesting to see if it is able to match or perhaps surpass the success of certain other IPs that have made a similar jump. If the anime goes on to do well, it may even boost the sales of the original work, as has been observed in the case of other video game adaptations in the past, such as the highly rated Fallout TV series.
