Seven Deadly Sins, aka Nanatsu no Taizai, has been popular since its release in 2014, becoming one of the stand-out anime on Netflix. The anime has a unique cast of characters, each with wildly different personalities and physical traits. All the seasons of the show are available to watch on Netflix, along with the movie based on the show called Prisoners of the Sky. Given its cult following and unique storylines that offer a fresh twist on the fantasy genre, Seven Deadly Sins is easily one of the best anime shows from the 2010s.

While there are some differences between the manga and the anime, the characters remain largely the same in terms of physicality. Many characters in Seven Deadly Sins are quite old, having lived for thousands of years. Some have been reincarnated, while others have remained in one body that appears stuck at a specific biological age.

Although they will be kept to a minimum, spoilers will not be completely avoidable. Please bear that in mind if you are not up to date with the anime.

From the sins themselves to the commandments and even the archangels, these characters have different motivations and backstories that make them stand out. As some characters have been portrayed to have participated in the ancient great war that occurred before the start of the series, the actual age of these characters comes into question. Aside from that, for more personal character connection, fan celebrations, and even general fandom culture, the birthdays of these characters, and by extension, their actual height, sparks intrigue about the characters in Seven Deadly Sins.

21 Gloxinia

From Fairy King To Commandment Of Repose

King’s predecessor was very different as a Commandment than he was as King of the Fairy King’s Forest. Initially, Gloxinia was a happy carefree individual, but after the death of his sister at the hands of humans he considered friends, Gloxinia went over to the demons and became the Commandment of Repose.

His ability seals the magic power of whoever fights without rest in his presence. Outside the demon powers he gained, Gloxinia’s true strength lies in his endurance and vitality. For offense, he’s heavily reliant on the Spirit Spear Basquias. Additionally, as a Fairy King, Gloxinia can control the life and death of nature. After realizing his mistake in joining the demons, Gloxinia returns to serve the Fairy King’s Forest.

20 Derieri

Commandment Of Purity

• Birthday: October 30

The Commandment of Purity put up a fight against Meliodas during the Great Fight Festival arc. With her Combo Star ability, Derieri’s chain attacks are to be feared even by demons and goddesses. As a recurring character, Derieri takes part in both the past Holy War and the new one. Partaking in both, Derieri’s backstory is portrayed and it’s revealed that she wasn’t always so taciturn and short of words.

It stemmed from her sister's death, which was brought upon after the goddess clan broke a peace treaty. The death of her sister greatly impacted her, showing that she can be hurt when those she loves are hurt. This forever changed her life as she came to hate the goddess clan unconditionally, but in truth, she’s no wild demon who seeks to eradicate those from the goddess clan, she eventually came to consider her actions towards humans and gods and goddesses in general.

19 Monspeet

Commandment Of Reticence

Fans of the Seven Deadly Sins series know that Derieri and Monspeet are an inseparable duo. Throughout the series, they’re almost always seen together, and while they never got together, they deeply care for one another. In the series, Monspeet served as the Commandment of Reticence. His ability makes those who harbor unspoken feelings mute. Unlike many other commandments, Monspeet’s commandment wasn’t his strongest ability, but rather his use of hellfire.

When he uses his hellfire to the max, he can even block an immortal's regeneration showing just how powerful he is. Despite being a demon, Monspeet isn’t one to indulge in violence and would rather dialogue except when Derieri is in danger or he’s facing someone like Meliodas. Perhaps because his commandment influences him, Monspeet tends to be introverted and does not speak much. Even to the end, his commandment never allowed him to convey his feelings to Derieri.

18 Arthur Pendragon

As the wielder of the sword, Excalibur, Arthur Pendragon is no mere supporting character. After his introduction to the Seven Deadly Sins anime series, Arthur is shown to be a special child with a special purpose. To this extent, Merlin becomes Arthur’s teacher and mentor.

In Seven Deadly Sins, Arthur serves as a young but powerful boy who seeks to spread happiness and hope wherever he goes. The young swordsman also deeply admired Meliodas and his abilities. However, in the sequel series Four Knights of the Apocalypse, fans will find that Arthur Pendragon is no longer the young, naive boy he used to be, as he has now developed a seething hatred for all other races except humanity.

17 Ludociel

The Leader Of The Four Archangels

As a member of the Goddess clan and one of the four archangels, Ludociel is one of the most powerful characters in the series. As an archangel, Ludociel possesses a kind and polite demeanor, and sought to end the Great Holy War thousands of years ago. As a member of the Goddess clan and one of the beings closest to God, Ludociel did not discriminate against others and treated everybody with love.

16 Tarmiel

The Multifaceted Archangel

Similarly to Ludociel, Tarmiel is one of the four archangels of the Goddess race. From his looks alone, it’s obvious that he portrays the various stages of life in a being. Tamriel has three faces, one representing early life, another, a middle-aged man, and the last, an elderly man.

As an archangel, Tarmiel possesses the Ocean Grace, which allows him to turn his body into a liquid-like form so he can him to escape attacks. With his grace, Tarmiel can also trap enemies or slow them down. As a character, while Tarmiel is merciless towards demons, he helps Elizabeth in her plan to ensure demons and angels can coexist.

15 Sariel

Like his brothers, Sariel has lived longer than many other characters in the series, even though many underestimate him for being physically smaller than his fellow archangels. In comparison to Tarmiel, Sariel is more level-headed, as he easily recognizes he had to battle Estarossa (who turned out to be Mael) to save him, unlike Tarmiel, who couldn’t face Mael after he found out his long-lost brother was Estarossa.

Like the rest of the archangels, Sariel possesses a grace known as Tornado. His grace grants him abilities like giving him control over the wind. Moreover, as a general rule, anything his wind slices will fail to regenerate.

14 Estarossa

Not many individuals possess a ‘cool as you like’ demeanor, but when Estarossa is in the conversation, not many debates can be had. As a member of the notorious 10 commandments, Estarossa stands as one of the strongest and a member of the four archangels.

His strength is something to boast about because he possesses the commandment of Love. This makes enemies in his presence who abhor hatred towards him unable to lay any form of damage on him. However, behind the unbothered demeanor is an individual who seeks to have the powers of the other commandments for himself.

13 Zeldris

Popularly known as Meliodas’ younger brother, Zeldris is a top warrior who leads the Demon Clan. He is also the leader of the 10 Commandments. Keeping the 10 commandments in check is one thing; being able to lead them is another. This is evidence of his ability to lead while also being cool, calm, and collected.

In terms of looks, he and Meliodas are only different in a few areas. He possesses the commandment of piety; generally, once an individual abandons him, it forces them to serve him.

12 Dreyfus

With his serious demeanor and reputation for following the rules, Great Holy Knight Dreyfus, is one of the first characters fans are introduced to in the Seven Deadly Sins series. His appearance in the first season was trademarked by his great dedication to protecting the kingdom of Britannia and the love he showed for his son, Griamore.

In terms of combat skills, Dreyfus is skilled with a long sword and is durable enough to last in a battle. He may be older than most people, but he is sure to not let that affect him.
