There's more to Shinobi: Art of Vengeance than just its stylish and satisfying combat. It also has tons of platforming and exploration in each of its Metroidvania-style levels, and before you can explore every inch of a map, you'll need to get the right traversal tools first.

Ningi, as the game calls them, are tools and abilities that let Joe Musashi reach otherwise-unreachable areas. If you can't get to a chest that's behind a shiny wall, or if you can't cross a big gap with air dashes and double jumps, then you'll most definitely need to get the right Ningi first. Thankfully, they're all given to you as you progress, and if you're wondering where to get each one in Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, here's a little something to help you out.

All Ningi in Shinobi: Art of Vengeance

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance Sword Dive

There are seven Ningi in the game, and they all have very specific use-cases. Two of them are unlocked before you even finish the tutorial level, while the rest are scattered across all of Shinobi's levels. Here are the five other Ningi you can unlock as well as the missions where you can find them:

Location

Description

Dash

Oboro Village

Swiftly dash through enemies, whether on the ground or mid-air.

Ninja Flip

Oboro Village

Use Dash after hitting an enemy to flip past them.

Ninja Claws

The Mountain

Climb and hang onto special walls and ceilings marked by a glowing, yellow indicator.

Cannon Punch

Lantern Festival

Charge up a punch that breaks through Yokai Barrier walls. Deals heavy damage to enemy armor and ignores shields.

Ninja Hook

Neo City

Throw a hook that propels you toward special hook anchors found in the air.

Sword Dive

Submarine Base

Jump into the air and dive down with great force, breaking horizontal Yokai Barrier walls. It also deals good damage against armor and enemy Execution Gauges.

Glider

The Desert

Unfurl a glider that slows down your descent. Can be used to travel through air currents.

Cannon Punch and Sword Dive can be incorporated into your combos when fighting enemies. The former is especially useful against anything with armor, while the latter is excellent when fighting enemies with high health.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance climbing with Ninja Claws

Armored enemies cannot be interrupted by normal attacks, and armor bars will regenerate if not destroyed. Meanwhile, enemies with high health are better dealt with by filling their Execution Gauge. Combine Ningi with Combat Moves and other abilities to gain an advantage.

Take note that while you can prioritize which Ningi to get first in a zone, you'll likely need more than one to reach secrets from previous levels. We strongly suggest holding off on replaying any mission until you get Sword Dive in the Submarine Base, as many secrets are locked behind Yokai floor barriers.
