During the Pokemon GO Dark Skies event, you will have higher chances of finding several Pokemon from the Galar region (the one introduced in Pokemon Sword and Shield).
The three iconic starter Pokemon from said region, Sobble, Grookey, and Scorbunny, will pop up way more often in the wild, but a lot of trainers might have one question about them: can the Galar starters be shiny in Pokemon GO?
The Dark Skies event will end on August 23 at 10 a.m. Local time. You should still be able to find Scorbunny, Grookey, and Sobble in the wild once the festivities end, but obviously, they will be harder to find.
Pokemon GO: A Complete Pokedex (January 2026)
The number that denotes a "complete" Pokedex in Pokemon GO can be confusing and complicated.
Can the Galar Starters in Pokemon GO Be Shiny? (Sobble, Grookey, and Scorbunny)
Just so we don't drag this on any longer, there are currently no shiny variants for Sobble, Grookey, or Scorbunny in Pokemon GO. Indeed, the Galarian starters do have shiny versions in the main games, like Sword and Shield, but they've yet to be added to the mobile pocket monster catching simulator.
When Will the Shinies Be Added to Pokemon GO?
Unfortunately, no specific timeframe or event is currently planned for the shiny versions of the Galar starters to make an appearance. And to make things worse, the starters from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (Fuecoco, Sprigatito, and Quaxly) already have shiny versions in Pokemon GO.
One would think we'd see the shiny debuts sooner rather than later, but you never know what you're going to get with GO.
What Do the Shiny Versions of Sobble, Grookey, and Scorbunny Look Like?
If you're still curious as to how the shiny variants of the Galar starters actually look, here's a quick look!
Grookey loses its traditional green coloring for a lighter, more muted coloring. Sobble's head fin turns a purplish color, while its skin also loses its blue hue, and its head takes on a more purplish coloring as well. And last but not least, Scorbunny's notable red coloring on its ears and feet is more orange.
