Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon features a ton of side quests for players, some often lead to a point where they'll have to make a choice that'll change the outcome. Black Tar Prophecies is one of those quests that players will receive from Jann Heber at the Horns of the South keep. After completing the first phase of his request, players will need to perform the Druidic ritual correctly, leading to a confrontation between Drest and Iona. So, should you side with Iona and attack Drest, or vice versa? Let's find out.
Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon Unforgettable Quest Walkthrough
Unforgettable is the first and missable side quest players pick up in Asylum, at the start of Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon.
How to Start the Black Tar Prophecies Quest in Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon
To start Black Tar Prophecies, players must first meet Jann Herber at the Horns of the South keep in Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon. His quarters are located to the left of Fearghas' station, right next to the storage chest. Once players talk to him and ask if he needs any help, Jann will share the discovery of ancient Druidic scrolls that explain the method of a ritual.
After the conversation, players will first receive the Lenses and the Eye of the Sage quest. To complete this quest, players must have 1x deer meat (Venison), 1x Garlic, and 1x Onion. After acquiring these items, head to the quest marker (at the Ancient Cromlech) and interact with the ritual altar. After a rather disappointing outcome, return to Jann Herber to report your findings. This will start the Black Tar Prophecies quest.
Where to Find Drest in Black Tar Prophecies
The first goal in the quest is to find a druid and make him cleanse the Ancient Cromlech. Jann Herber recommends asking the guards around Horns of the South for any information. Head to the location shown above. It's just south of the castle, on the beach. A man is sitting next to a campfire, whom you can talk to, who'll reveal himself to be Drest, a druid.
After offering him food items as payment, he'll agree to help you cleanse the Ancient Cromlech and get rid of anything evil that taints it. Now, all you need to do is head back to Ancient Cromlech and progress the mission.
Should You Attack Drest or Iona?
Once Drest starts the ritual of cleansing, he'll be interrupted by a strange woman who'll introduce herself as Iona. Once the conversation progresses, it'll become apparent that she holds a grudge against Drest and wants to exact her revenge on him. Here, players will get a choice to either agree with Iona and let her kill Drest, or side with Drest to protect him from her.
Siding with Iona feels like the morally correct option here, as she's suffered enough and deserves closure to her torment that Drest was directly responsible for. Drest appears selfish, even with players when they first encounter him. So, Iona's claims are believable, and her hatred against Drest is justified.
However, if Drest dies, players will be locked out of future quests that he would be a key character for. Although it is a tough decision, siding with Drest to avoid missing out on upcoming quests will be the better choice in Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon. Once he's dead, players can return to Jann Herber to turn in the quest. This will conclude the Black Tar Prophecies quest and reward players with their well-earned XP.
