Unlike previous entries, Little Nightmares 3 features two playable protagonists, Low and Alone. As players start a new game, this is the first choice they'll have to make, whether they're playing multiplayer co-op with a friend or solo. Each playable character has their own unique ability, and a specific role to play while solving puzzles or fighting enemies. Here's a breakdown of both characters to help you decide whether you should play as Alone or Low in Little Nightmares 3.
Little Nightmares 3 Producer Talks Co-Op Gameplay and the Franchise’s Future: “I Think This Is Just the Beginning”
The Best War Games chats with Little Nightmares 3 producer Coralie Feniello about co-op gameplay, character design, and the future of the series.
What's the Difference Between Low & Alone in Little Nightmares 3?
Low and Alone are the two protagonists that you'll get to play as in Little Nightmares 3. Alone is the name of the character with pigtails and goggles, while Low is the character who's wearing a cool mask of a crow's skull. Both character names are cryptic, and so are their designs in LN3.
Each character comes with a unique weapon and plays a crucial role as you advance through different levels in the game. While there aren't any story implications for choosing one playable character over the other, your gameplay will change noticeably according to your choice.
Here's a complete breakdown for Low and Alone, which will help you choose which character to play as in Little Nightmares 3. Since the character names aren't shown in the selection screen, you identify them via images in the entries below.

Alone |
Wrench |
Combat Encounters: Alone is a melee fighter who can use their wrench to beat up enemies and mostly finish them off after Low takes them down. Platforming Sections: Alone will use their wrench to turn gear mechanics, which will usually open up pathways by shifting the position of objects in the environment. |

Low |
Bow & Arrow |
Combat Encounters: Low is a ranged fighter who can use their bow to shoot arrows at enemies, bringing them to the ground for Alone to deliver a finishing blow. Platforming Sections: Low's bow auto-locks on objects like ropes and buttons in the environment, even if they're reasonably far away. |
Once you've chosen a character at the start of a playthrough, you won't be able to change or switch to another one for the entirety of Little Nightmares 3's playthrough.
Should You Choose Low or Alone in Little Nightmares 3? (Solo & Co-op)
As discussed before, there aren't any story implications for selecting either one of the playable characters in Little Nightmares 3. So, feel free to choose whichever character that aligns better with your playstyle.
With that said, the in-game cutscenes tend to focus on Low a bit more, making them feel like the main character in the entry. Low has a slightly more active role in combat encounters and platforming sections, due to their versatile bow. However, Alone is equally enjoyable to play if you favor a more melee-centric gameplay over ranged.
If you happen to be playing solo, it's recommended to choose Low as the playable character in Little Nightmares 3. You can go for Alone in the subsequent playthroughs, since you'll eventually need to play both characters to unlock all the trophies. However, the game is still quite enjoyable even if you end up picking Alone in a co-op playthrough with a friend.
