Fans were treated to something special when Konami put out a limited edition vinyl of the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack, but unfortunately it sold out in less than two minutes. OSTs aside, scary games are enjoying something of a renaissance and have been for some time now. The reboot of Resident Evil, not to mention hits from smaller studios like Bloober Team and Frictional Games, have renewed interest in the genre and 2023 is shaping up to be a good year for horror gaming.

With the remakes of RE4 and Dead Space, as well as a new entry in the Outlast series, there's already plenty to look forward to. On top of that, there are many new Silent Hill projects currently in development, from Silent Hill f to Townfall. The one that many are looking forward to is Bloober's remake of Silent Hill 2, with the original 2001 release going down as one of the most important horror games of all time. One thing that went along with the title's moody atmosphere and dark psychological themes was the soundtrack, and fans were given a chance to purchase special vinyls of the score.

However, potential buyers had to be pretty quick to grab a copy. In a recent post on Twitter, the official Konami Shop announced the release of two Silent Hill 2 soundtrack vinyls, though only 500 were made available. The downside to this is that, when looking at the online store, both limited edition OSTs are now showing as sold out. Shortly after they became available, people began posting on social media that the vinyls sold out in about a minute. Many people were held up during the checkout process because, for some reason, the vinyls could only be purchased in multiples of five, which may explain why they were all gone in the blink of an eye.

It's perhaps not surprising that fans would be interested in purchasing soundtracks from the Silent Hill series. The haunting music was composed by Akira Yamaoka, a veteran musician whose work became a vital addition to each game, working alongside the gritty visuals and aforementioned themes.

When the original Silent Hill was released back in 1999, it helped redefine survival horror in gaming. After the first Resident Evil entry, which itself took cues from Alone in the Dark, the genre was beginning to be established, but Konami's late 90s offering opened up new possibilities when it came to psychological terror. Hopefully more copies of the SH2 soundtrack will become available, but at the time of writing, it's still not possible to get hold of the vinyls without paying way above the MSRP on eBay.

Silent Hill 2 was released in 2001 for PS2.
