With Silent Hill 2 Remake set to release on October 8 for PC and PS5, it’s time to take a look at the bevy of bonuses Silent Hill fans can look forward to getting their hands on.
Shortly after Sony’s State of Play on May 30, 2024, Konami held its own digital event to share details on its upcoming Silent Hill projects. Silent Hill 2 Remake Will Be a 'Faithful' Remake, But Should It Be?
The best remakes tend to walk a fine line between nostalgia and innovation, and Silent Hill 2's remake has some very big shoes to fill.
Explaining Silent Hill 2 Remake’s Various Editions
Silent Hill 2 Remake’s bonus content is split across four editions. While players who buy the standard edition at launch won't receive any bonus content, all players who pre-order the standard edition will receive a digital Mira the Dog mask for James Sunderland to wear in-game. Gamers who pre-order the game on PlayStation 5 will receive an additional digital mask based on Robbie the Rabbit. Either way, the standard edition costs $69.99.
The Deluxe Edition of Silent Hill 2 costs $79.99 and includes a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack, and a digital Pyramid Head pizza box mask for James to wear in-game. Fans who pre-order the Deluxe Edition will also receive all standard edition pre-order bonuses, plus a 48-hour early access pass, allowing fans to start playing the game before Silent Hill Remake's official release on October 8.
Silent Hill 2 Remake’s Masks Explained
Perhaps the most discussed part of Silent Hill 2 Remake’s bonus content is the game’s digital masks. Intended as overtures to the Silent Hill fanbase, the game’s digital masks combine game iconography, memes, and Silent Hill's non-canon joke endings into a cacophony of franchise references.
Silent Hill 2’s Remake’s Robbie The Rabbit Mask
Making his first appearance in Silent Hill 3, Robbie the Rabbit is the mascot of Lakeside Amusement Park, located in Silent Hill’s Northern district of Paleville. Usually found with blood around his mouth, Robbie is an enigmatic figure in the franchise and one of Silent Hill’s most merchandised images. While Robbie appears to chase Heather Mason in Silent Hill 3’s save file icon, he has only appeared as an antagonist in Silent Hill: The Arcade.
Robbie the Rabbit has also appeared in a number of other games, including Metal Gear Online, PlayStation Home, Dead By Daylight, and Elebits. Robbie the Rabbit has had more cameo appearances in other games than Pyramid Head.
Silent Hill 2 Remake’s Mira the Dog Mask
Mira the Dog is a shiba inu featured in Silent Hill 2’s notoriously weird ‘Dog’ ending---an Easter egg only available to players after completing Silent Hill 2 three times and getting all three canon endings. Revealed in his joke ending to be the mastermind behind the events of Silent Hill 2, Mira has become a fan favourite character in the decades since his first appearence. Subsequent joke endings in other Silent Hill games have expanded on Mira's lore, revealing the adorable pup to have mysterious connections to the UFO endings featured throughout the Silent Hill franchise.
Silent Hill 2’s Pyramid Head Pizza Box Mask
Unlike the previous two masks, the Pyramid Head pizza box mask are not direct references to previous games; rather, the mask serves as an homage to the endless creativity of the Silent Hill fanbase. While the origins of the pizza box Pyramid Head cosplay have been lost to time, the silly pizza-themed riff on one of Silent Hill’s most iconic monsters has become a stalwart of conventions and video game cosplay events.
Fans Still Have Time to Choose Which Silent Hill 2 Remake Pre-Order Bonuses They Want
The Silent Hill franchise has a history of fantastic soundtracks and interesting behind-the-scenes concept art, and Silent Hill 2’s digital soundtrack and digital artbook should appeal to die-hard fans looking for more information on Bloober Team's creative process when approaching the remake. With Silent Hill 2 Remake’s release date set for October 8, fans still have a few months to decide which bonuses they're going to pick up.
