Bloober Team's remake of Silent Hill 2 was one of the biggest surprises of last year. Since the game is so beloved by horror fans, there was a lot of skepticism leading up to the remake's launch. Thankfully, Silent Hill 2 proved that it had what it takes to retell its terrifying story in a brand-new light.

Because of this success, Bloober Team is now set to work with Konami once more. Right now, what new game Bloober Team will bring to life for Konami remains a mystery. If there happens to be another remake, though, returning to the Silent Hill franchise is hopefully the plan. The first three games in the series have become iconic. Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 3 are both worthy of getting the remake treatment, and predicting which one gets remade first is a fun avenue of speculation to venture down.

It may be widely praised as the best in the series, but Konami has hopefully ignored Silent Hill 2 when developing Silent Hill f.

The Next Remake in the Silent Hill Franchise Seems Obvious

Revisiting Where the Franchise Started

  • Silent Hill 1 was released for the PlayStation in 1999.

As the genesis of the series, the very first Silent Hill game is in need of a fresh coat of paint the most. Its graphics, gameplay, and writing have all become dated over time. Horror games have come a long way since 1999, and while Silent Hill 1 still offers a fun dose of nostalgia, its age definitely shows. The original trilogy is still hailed as a great set of horror stories, and while Silent Hill 3 is also deserving of a remake, revisiting Harry Mason and his trip into the titular town first is essential.

Bloober Team is also working on its own IP. Cronos: The New Dawn is an upcoming time-traveling cosmic horror title.

There Can't Be a Strong Silent Hill 3 Remake Without a Silent Hill 1 Remake

Technically, Silent Hill 3 could be remade without the first game, but it would be far less satisfying. The two games are closely tied to one another, so Silent Hill 1 will need to set the stage first. If Silent Hill 3 were remade first, only longtime fans would understand the connections, isolating any newcomers to the franchise. Silent Hill 2 has the benefit of standing on its own, but because of the first and third games being directly connected, Silent Hill 1 looks like the most obvious choice to remake first.

However, there is still the possibility that another Silent Hill remake could look outside the main trilogy. While Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 3 seem like the clearest choices for reworks, Silent Hill 4: The Room could be a strong option, too.

Silent Hill f is the next fresh chapter in the series and relocates to franchise Japan.

Silent Hill 4 Shares Silent Hill 2's Stand-Alone Storytelling

  • Silent Hill 4 is the first game not to be set in the town of Silent Hill.
  • Taking place in the fictional city of Ashfield, protagonist Henry Townshend must investigate a series of mysterious murders in his locked apartment that has a portal to alternate dimensions.

Silent Hill 4 sticks with the franchise's special brand of psychological horror, but it also tells a fascinating story outside the confines of the titular town and its cult. Just like Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 4 can stand on its own without having to keep any major continuity intact.

It's hard to know for sure which Silent Hill chapter is most likely for a remake, but Silent Hill 1 or Silent Hill 4 feel like the most likely choices at this point. Ultimately, Silent Hill 1 seems destined to be next, as it's the franchise entry that is definitely in need of the most improvements. With Silent Hill f on the way, the future of the series is looking bright, and it will be exciting to see if more remakes are thrown into the mix.
