Silent Hill 2 Remake Reveals Clever Throwback Feature

The upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake will include a unique feature that will make players nostalgic for the original PlayStation 2 title.

According to multiple tweets by AestheticGamer1, several features such as multiplayer, among others, were supposed to be included in Silent Hill: Downpour. As Book of Memories came out the same year as Downpour, it could be possible that the mutliplayer aspect was dedicated to Book of Memories instead. Other scrapped mechanics included a psychological profile similar to Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Anne as a playable character, a wristwatch enemy detector, and some enemies that didn't make the final cut. There was also supposedly a hiding mechanic, and a fear meter which tied in with the proposed Psych Profile feature.

Would These Mechanics Have Made a Difference to Gamers?

While fans can only imagine what could have been, it seems Silent Hill: Downpour had a lot of interesting features it wanted to test out. Some people from the comment section believed that Downpour could've been a good entry in the franchise if some of the features made it to the final game. Some users defended Silent Hill: Downpour as an underrated title that also brought a lot to the table. And while the arguments from the comments section vary, it's also true that many of the planned mechanics would have been interesting in the context of a Silent Hill game.

The future of Silent Hill is bright. While the chances of more remakes and remasters could depend on the success of Silent Hill 2's remake, the noise that the series has made due to recent discoveries and announcements has awoken gamers' love for the acclaimed horror franchise. Whether it's revisiting old titles or making brand-new games, many fans are already looking forward to their return to Silent Hill.
