One of the best ways to customize Hornet's combat and movement mechanics to your liking is with Crests. In Silksong, Crests will change Hornet's moves, including attack speed and range, downward and dash attacks, and grant new abilities when you use the Bind skill. In Silksong, one of the most transformative Crests is the Witch Crest.

Earned after a lengthy and challenging series of quests, the Crest of the Witch gives Hornet a longer-range attack, the capacity to hit twice with one input, and a Bind that will absorb enemy HP and heal her own. This guide explains how to get the Witch Crest in Silksong and details what exactly the Witch Crest changes with regard to Hornet's moveset and playstyle.
Silksong Witch Crest Playstyle & Unique Moveset
What Does the Witch Crest Do in Silksong?
Whip the needle in sweeping swings. Leech the life of foes through twisted roots.
Like all Crests in Silksong, the Witch Crest changes aspects of Hornet's combat maneuvers and movement style when equipped. This Crest gives Hornet a whip-like attack that has an incredibly long reach and fast attack speed.
Though the Needle appears to do slightly less damage with this Crest equipped , dash attacks and downward slashes will strike enemies twice.
The most noticeable change to Hornet's playstyle, when the Witch Crest is equipped, affects her Bind skill. With most Crests, using Bind will heal Hornet for 3 Masks of HP. In Silksong, the Witch Crest turns Hornet's normal heal into a HP-sapping, short-range tendril attack.
You must be practically touching an enemy to absorb their HP with this Bind, so if no enemies are nearby, Hornet cannot heal.
The Witch Crest comes with one red Tool slot and one blue Tool slot unlocked. Using Memory Lockets, you can unlock two more blue Tool slots and another red Tool slot.
How to Get the Crest of the Witch in Silksong
Deliver the Twisted Bud, Then Remove the Parasite
To get the Crest of the Witch, Silksong players must successfully remove the Twisted Bud from Hornet after delivering it to Greyroot and choosing to partake in the Ritual of Rebirth. The Twisted Bud quest line is challenging, as Hornet will not be able to use Tools, generate Silk, or regain HP until it is removed.
Find the Twisted Bud in a mass of twisting roots in a room to the bottom-left of the drop into Bilewater from the Whispering Vaults. Return this to Greyroo t, in its hut on the left side of Shellwood, and accept the Rite of Rebirth follow-up quest.
Greyroot will infect Hornet with a parasite, incapacitating her and removing her ability to heal, use Tools, or generate Silk. You must complete a lengthy and challenging series of tasks to successfully remove the Twisted Bud parasite.
- Follow our complete guide to the Twisted Bud quest in Silksong, which explains where to find this item, where you should bring it, and offers a step-by-step guide on how to remove the Twisted Bud.
Upon completion of the last quest in the chain, the parasite will be destroyed and absorbed into Hornet, granting her the Crest of the Witch. Her HP and Silk bars will unlock as she gains full, unhindered access to the powers of the Witch Crest, which can then be modified with Tools or swapped out at any bench.
