Roach Guts is a side quest in Hollow Knight: Silksong that tasks players with hunting down 10 Muckroaches, a type of enemy found in Sinner's Road. The reward for completing the quest is Tacks, one of the best combat Tools in the early game.
This guide covers how to trigger the quest, how to find and collect 10 Roach Guts, as well as how the Tacks Tool works. Here’s the breakdown.
How to Get Snare Setter in Silksong
The Snare Setter is a Red Tool in Hollow Knight: Silksong that can be found in a hidden area in one of the starting locations of the game.
How to Start Roach Guts Quest
Crull and Benjin Location
Players can start the Roach Guts quest by talking to Crull and Benjin in Sinner's Road in Silksong. They can be found in the top right corner of the room, east of the broken Sinner's Road bench.
To get to them, you'll need to use Cling Grip (Wall Jump) on the left side of the room, pogo off of the floating spikes, then use Drifter's Cloak (Float) to reach their hut. Inside, talk to the two bugs to receive the Roach Guts quest, which asks you to slay 10 Muckroaches and collect their guts.
Where to Find Muckroaches in Silksong
Muckroach Locations
Muckroaches are present in multiple locations in Sinner's Road, but the most optimal location to farm them is in the long tunnel directly underneath the bench, to the left of the locked Green Prince. Here's how it works.
- Rest at the Sinner's Road bench to set your respawn point and exit through the right exit.
-
Drop down to the bottom, then turn left.
- There are three Muckroaches, two on the ground and one on top of a cage.
- Kill the Muckroaches and collect the items that drops from their carcass to obtain Roach Guts.
The tunnel above the Sinner's Road bench contains four Muckroaches in close proximity, but because of the other hazards and enemies in the area, it is much harder to farm them efficiently.
How to Get and Use Tacks in Silksong
Roach Guts Quest Reward
Return to Crull and Benjin once you've collected 10 Roach Guts to complete the Wish. As a reward, they will give you
Tacks, a Red Tool that can deal some massive damage in the right situations. In Silksong, Tacks function like caltrops; Hornet can throw them on the ground, and if enemies step on them, they take damage. Tacks come with 6 charges, which can be restored using Shell Shards at a bench. Restoring each charge costs 8 Shell Shards.
Every time players use Tacks, Hornet throws out 4-5 caltrops, each one deals roughly half a Needle hit's worth of damage to enemies who step on them. It's possible to litter an area with Tacks to turn the entire floor into a hazard for enemies. This tool is best used against bosses, especially those who are grounded and move slowly.
