Summary
- The beloved mobile game, The Simpsons: Tapped Out, has officially shut down.
- Fans were heartbroken by the shutdown.
- The Simpsons: Tapped Out is not the only EA game being shut down in 2025, with several others facing similar fates.
It's officially the end of an era for The Simpsons, as the beloved mobile game The Simpsons: Tapped Out has shut down. The Simpsons: Tapped Out was originally released in 2012 and proved to be a hit on Android and iOS mobile devices. A city builder game that let players essentially create their own Springfield, The Simpsons: Tapped Out generated millions in revenue for EA and had a dedicated fanbase of players even 13 years after its release.
While The Simpsons: Tapped Out wasn't as popular in the last year as it was a decade ago, there were still thousands that logged in to the game every single day. These individuals were understandably heartbroken when EA announced that The Simpsons: Tapped Out was shutting down. Concerned fans created petitions in an attempt to convince EA to keep The Simpsons: Tapped Out online, but sadly, these efforts were futile.
Heartbroken Simpsons: Tapped Out Players Are Saying Goodbye to Their Cities
Fans of The Simpsons: Tapped Out are mourning the game in advance and saying goodbye to each of their own cities of Springfield.
As was previously announced, EA has shut down The Simpsons: Tapped Out. The Simpsons: Tapped Out servers are now offline, with everyone's cities lost to the void. The game's subreddit has been flooded with messages from fans saying goodbye to their towns, with many deciding to send their townspeople on 24-hour tasks right before the shut-down.
The Simpsons: Tapped Out Servers Are Offline
EA never provided any kind of concrete explanation as to why it was shutting down The Simpsons: Tapped Out, a mobile game with over a decade of history, but it's possible it had to do with expiring licenses, the cost of running the game not being justified by the revenue it was generating, or some other reason entirely. The only solace is that at least EA told fans when The Simpsons: Tapped Out was being delisted and when it was shutting down the game, so they had a few months to say goodbye.
Unfortunately, The Simpsons: Tapped Out isn't the only EA-published game getting shut down in 2025. Seven more EA mobile games are shutting down on January 29, while UFC 3 is on the chopping block come February 17. EA Sports UFC Mobile 2 and NCAA 14 are both shutting down on March 13, and Madden NFL 21's online services will cease to exist on June 30. Some of these games have offline options available, so fans can keep playing even after their online functionality is shut down, but sadly, that does not apply to The Simpsons: Tapped Out, which is now gone for good.
