Summary
- The Sims 4 offers a variety of collections, with some being more valuable and rewarding than others.
- The Positivity Posters collection, although no longer available, adds decorative pieces with positive messages to Sims' homes.
- The Metals collection may appear mundane, but they have multiple uses, such as displaying them or analyzing them in the scientist career.
The world of The Sims 4 is full of treasures untold. Players go to great lengths to discover all the secrets that the game has to offer, many of which can be discovered in the 36 collections hidden among the game and its expansion packs. Collections range from fossils and frogs to aliens and magic beans, all of which can be found at varying difficulties.
Completing each collection offers various rewards for Sims, completion plaques and simoleons for example, as well as feelings of pride and triumph for the player's hard work. Although the nature of collections is designed to be challenging to complete, many are not worth a player's time and energy. Waste no further time. These are the best collections in terms of how difficult or time-consuming they are to complete, their visual appeal, and the functionalities of the items in the collection.
10 Positivity Posters
In late 2018, The Sims 4 introduced the Positivity Challenge in collaboration with Millie Bobby Brown. As a reward for completing acts of kindness towards other Sims - such as helping with homework, taking out the trash, and brightening a Sim's day - they will earn one of four motivational posters with positive messages, cute animals, and beautiful scenery.
Unfortunately, this challenge is not available to players anymore. These posters are only available by activating cheats and unlocking all objects in build/buy mode. Everyone needs a reminder to embrace positivity and be kind to others and these decorative pieces are the perfect way to dress up those bland walls in Sims' homes.
9 Moonwood Relics
The Moonwood Relics are a part of the most recent collection added to The Sims 4 in the Werewolves game pack. Upon exploring the Moonwood Mills Tunnels and scavenging other spots around the world, players can uncover 12 "relics" or items to add to the collection.
Unlike many other collections, these items serve more than just a display or decoration. These relics - such as the Mooncaster Pot Shards and the Canine Familiar Figurines - and their detailed descriptions give players a closer look into the lore and history of Moonwood Mill and the existence of werewolves.
8 Metals
Metals are quite the underrated collection in The Sims 4. They may look like mere rocks, but they sure pack a punch when it comes to their functionality. Like most collections, players can find metals by digging in designated places around neighborhoods. There are 20 base game metals to find, as well as two bonus metals from the Get To Work expansion pack.
Fortunately, metals can be used for a variety of different things. Display them in a case or a shelf to impress house guests. In the scientist career, Sims can analyze metals to find elements from the element collection or used to create inventions like the Cloning Machine or the Sim Ray.
7 Simmies
Simmies are cute little dolls that come with The Sims 4: Snowy Escape expansion pack. There are 12 regular and 12 rare, golden Simmies in this collection. Each doll has the appearance of classic Sims characters, such as the Father Winter Simmi or the Mayor Whiskers Simmi. Obtain Simmies by purchasing capsules from the vending machine or by asking Yamachan, the Snowy Escape mascot, for some. There is, however, a risk of death by vending machine. Any collection that players are willing to risk their Sims dying for is a good collection to have.
The vending machines and capsules are inspired by Japanese gacha machines, which are similar to a bubblegum candy dispensing machine. Unfortunately, this collection is quite difficult to complete and is very costly. Each capsule costs 50 simoleons and the Simmies have varying rarities, so finding golden Simmies could easily take hundreds or thousands of simoleons.
6 Magical Artifacts
The Magical Artifacts collection came with the Realm of Magic game pack. There are 26 items in the collection, including wands, familiars, and broomsticks all in varying colors and styles. They can be found in Caster Alley in the Magic Realm or rewarded for dueling other spellcaster Sims.
Much like the Moonwood Relics collection, these items are more than just decorations for a secret lair. What makes this collection unique is that all the items are functional and serve Sims a great purpose. Although this is a great collection to attempt, it loses points in this ranking due to how time-consuming the collection process is.
5 Space Prints
Upon using the base game Backyard Observatory or the telescope to stargaze or observe the sky, Sims have the chance to find a series of space prints. There are 25 out-of-this-world photos that players can try to collect.
These space prints are not only easy to collect and complete but also are visually appealing. Decorate the walls of a studious study room or an avid astronaut Sim's bedroom with realistic and colorful space photos. Compared to some other collections, there is no skill requirement or specific pack players need to purchase. It can be enjoyed by all Sims and their players.
4 Voidcritters
With the Kid's Room stuff pack, children can collect up to 20 different Voidcritter cards by asking their parents to purchase them. They can also be obtained by searching in logs and trash cans, buying them from vending machines, or by trading them with other kids. The trading aspect in this collection makes finding each new card easier and also makes for a fun and exciting experience.
Strikingly similar to Pokemon games, cardholders can train their little monsters and compete in battles with their Voidcritters at the Voidcritter Battle Station with other child Sims. Sadly, Sims cannot battle with Voidcritters past their childhood life stage.
3 Fish
The fish collection is the second-largest collection in the game, with a whopping 52 possible fish (24 base game fish) to catch across several expansion packs and game packs. That being said, it is incredibly time-consuming - if not, nearly impossible - to try to catch them all. Players must strategize by raising their Sim's fishing skill level, plotting the perfect location, and using the best bait to catch the desired fish.
There are many purposes for fish in The Sims 4. With the Island Living expansion, Sims can join the fishing career to earn their living. Uncommon and rare fish sell for a decent amount of simoleons, so it's perfect for Sims who are strapped for cash. Fry up the fish for dinner, use them as fertilizer for plants, mount them on a wall, or put them back on the hook as bait for bigger fish. They can also be kept as pets in a fish tank or bowl.
2 Crystals
Crystals are a highly underrated collection to pursue. There are a total of 24 crystals from the base game, Get To Work, and Jungle Adventure. The crystals are mainly found in digging spots around worlds, but can also be purchased via the computer. Similar to metals, scientists can ask for crystals from their coworkers to be used for analysis or sent to the Geo Council to collect elements, or they can be used to create new inventions. Collecting crystals is key to several challenges in the game, most notably the Crystal Legacy Challenge.
As they do in real life, crystals have the power to provoke peace and cleanse the body of emotional distress in The Sims 4. Enable a crystal's emotional aura to trigger emotions such as Focused and Energized. They can also be popped into the Celestial Crystal Crown to remove unwanted emotion buffs, alleviate needs levels, and boost skill levels.
1 Gardening
Finally, the gardening collection is the most extensive collection in the game with over 93 plants from the base game and with each expansion pack. Many people enjoy gardening games to relax their minds and The Sims 4 is a perfect place to sow seeds. Whether it's fruits, vegetables, herbs, fungi, flowers, or exotic plants, there are plenty of ways Sims can use this collection to their advantage.
If they're in a pinch, Sims can eat garden items raw to soothe their hunger needs. They can be harvested and sold, which is key to the gardener career and challenges like the Garden Legacy Challenge. Oversized crops from the Country Living expansion can be submitted to the Finchwick Fair to win ribbons for the ribbon collection. Use items from the gardening collection for grafting to create hybrid plants. Otherwise, plants can be used for cooking and baking, brewing herbal remedies, nectar making, and making great gifts for holidays.
The Sims 4 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
