The Sims 4 includes adorable features for raising and interacting with virtual children – the cutest of them all being reading to a child. Adult Sims need to read to their child to unlock some aspirations, such as the Big Happy Family Aspiration and Successful Lineage Aspiration.
Just like in real life, reading enhances a child’s cognitive development and improves their mental skills, such as logic and creativity, within the game. Besides that, it strengthens the bond between parent and child Sims in The Sims 4. Seeing how important it is, everyone should know how to read to a child without any hassles.
How to Read to a Child in Sims 4
Before jumping right into the reading process, make sure to select the right book for the child Sim. Children's books in The Sims 4 stand out because they are white with purple designs on top. There are a variety of books, ranging from skill-building books, fairytales and imagination boosters, and general books.
To initiate reading to the children (yes – an adult can read to more than one child Sim!), select a calm and peaceful environment with a place to comfortably sit, such as a bed, couch, or even the floor. In addition, ensure the reading zone is free from distractions, and both the parent and child Sims are available.
- Click on the bookshelf and choose Open.
- Select a Children’s book.
- Click on the Read to Child option.
- In the pop-up, choose the children to read to.
- Once the children are selected, the adult Sim will immediately begin reading to the child Sims. When they’re done, both of them reap the rewards of this bonding session.
For children’s books lying around on objects, such as tables, click on the book and select Read to Child. However, if players aren’t close to a suitable seating arrangement, the “Read to Child” option may not appear.
Guidelines for Reading with Children in Sims 4
Not all books can be read to children, so ensure beforehand that the bookcase contains children’s books. If none are available, click on the bookcase, select Purchase books, and sort them by children’s books. After purchasing, players might have to click on the bookcase again and select the “Read to Child” option, followed by picking a story to read.
To fulfill certain aspirations, players may need to read to a child more than once or for a prolonged period of time. Look at it as a chance to allow parent Sims to nurture and bond with their virtual offspring while guiding them to a better future.
The Sims 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
