A new update for The Sims 4 has dropped, and it's added a number of free items that players can get for their Sims. This particular release adds all the items to the base game, so even those who are enjoying The Sims 4 without expansion packs can take advantage of this new loot.

Although EA revealed that The Sims 4 will see continuing support for the time being in lieu of releasing a full-fledged sequel, there have been some recent teases regarding more Sims games. The most significant is that of Project Rene, which has now been revealed to be a mobile sim game that includes multiplayer capabilities. Further, the series will see "a family of new Sims experiences" released for PCs and consoles, though the developer hasn't revealed exactly what's in the pipeline.

‘There’s a Lot of Misinformation Going Around’ EA Responds to Rumors About the Future of Sims 4 Development

The future of The Sims 4 and the wider Sims franchise is a little unclear right now, but thanks to a recent leak, more official news is on the way.

The Sims 4 Update Adds 9 Free Items You Can Get Now

On January 13, The Sims 4 received a new update that added a new collection of clothing and decorative items to the game. This is The Coach Collection, which, as the name implies, is based upon the real-world luxury fashion brand. The new collection includes six new pieces of apparel based on real designs by the brand, as well as three build/buy items. The apparel items include Soho Sneakers, a Varsity Jacket, Heritage Blouson Jacket, Sleek Skirt, Coach Loose Fit Jeans, and a Coach Relaxed Fit T-shirt. The items all include multiple swatches based upon real Coach looks that can be found in stores.

For the additional items, Sims 4 players can pick up the Coach Tabby bag and Brooklyn bag, which can be used as decorations but can't be carried, as well as a heritage Coach Trunk. The trunk can be used as decoration, but also includes similar functionality to the costume trunk from The Sims 4's Lovestruck expansion. When a user selects it, they're presented with an option to switch their Sims into one of three premade Coach outfits, which include a buff dependent upon the style chosen. Players can choose between Confident, Flirty, and Playful styles.

In addition to the items already mentioned, players can gain two new additions from the Sims 4 Gallery courtesy of this new update. One is the In The Bag room, which is "intricately designed to showcase Coach bags and trunks" and may serve well as a backdrop for pictures. The update has also added The Carriage House to the Gallery, which includes three pre-made Sim roommates. Both have to be manually downloaded to a user's game, but are completely free.

Looking to The Sims' Future

While this new fashion collection is likely to please a lot of fans, The Sims also has more arriving in its future. The Sims 4's next expansion pack, called Royalty and Legacy, has leaked following it being rated by the South Korean Game Content Classification Committee. Players can expect the ability to turn their Sims into nobles, allowing them to build family dynasties. It's rumored that the next Sims 4 expansion will arrive in February, but an official announcement hasn't been made yet.

Unfortunately, not everything new happening with the Sims franchise is positive news. Fans of The Sims Mobile are experiencing the final days of the game, as The Sims Mobile will be shut down on January 20. While it's not the same thing, fans might want to check out The Sims FreePlay, which is a mobile game that launched prior to The Sims Mobile, but is still running and being supported. Presumably, Project Rene will eventually fill the gap where The Sims Mobile was, but it doesn't have a release window yet.
