9 Sims 4 Mods That Improve Family Gameplay, Ranked
These Sims 4 family mods make families more emotional, real, and deep. They improve every stage of family life, from babies to legacy generations.
With it currently raining indoors on many Sims 4 households, now is the perfect time to look back on some of the strangest and most unexpected things that can happen to Simmers. From the funny and the annoying to the totally bizarre, here are the most memorable bugs and glitches in The Sims 4.
10 Freezing In Place
Some Sims Don't Feel Like Following Orders
While some Sims can't sit still, constantly doing autonomous push-ups, going for a jog, scrolling on their phones, or getting distracted by malleable lumps of clay, others can’t seem to do anything at all.
The Best Sims 4 Mods
The Sims 4 has one of the biggest mod communities in gaming - here are some of the best choices.
Many Simmers have encountered a bug where their Sims totally ignore the commands given to them, standing motionless or failing to move on to the next task queued for them. Thankfully, the ‘reset object’ cheat is always at hand to help stubborn Sims out of a sticky situation.
9 Living On Non-Residential Lots
Sims Have Been Known To Inadvertently Start A Home Business
On occasion, through a combination of glitches and household moves, some Simmers have found a family to be accidently living on a non-residential lot, such as a gym or community space.
While this is a feature many Simmers would love to see available in the actual game without having to use mods, it's not currently available beyond very rare glitches, and a glitch of this kind can stop certain features from working, such as being able to access a household's inventory or change things around in build mode.
8 Doing The Dishes In The Bathroom
Any Sink Does The Job, Right?
A classic bug in The Sims 4 that many players will have experienced is when, after finishing up a meal, tidy Sims will happily gather their dirty plates and take them to the nearest sink. Unfortunately, this isn't always the one players would expect them to use.
Washing dishes in the bathroom while other Sims wait impatiently outside the door to use the facilities is a humorous annoyance that many players have become used to. Thankfully, this glitch can now easily be avoided by setting the sink type to 'bathroom,' simply by clicking on the offending basin.
7 Chaotic Weddings
It's No Wonder Some Sims Turn Into Bridezillas On Their Big Day
Bugs and glitches are common in special events that take place in The Sims 4, and one instance where this really stood out was with the introduction of the My Wedding Stories pack.
Every The Sims 4 Game Pack, Ranked
The Sims 4 offered more variation in gameplay than ever before, but not every game pack was created equal.
In-game weddings have always been buggy, but the pack only added more to the madness, with unruly guests refusing to stay seated and turning up for the most special of days wearing jeans and cowboy hats rather than following the dress code. Add wedding cakes that begin to decompose before the couple even gets the chance to cut a slice into the mix, and Sims weddings prove to be a recipe for fun and chaos every time.
6 Paranormal Powers
Some Non-Spooky Sims Have A Habit Of Walking Through Walls
Occult characters have always been a beloved feature of The Sims, with vampires, werewolves, spellcasters, magical plant Sims, and now fairies making an appearance in the latest game Expansion Pack. Ghosts have long been a feature, too, coming with their own special abilities, including haunting other Sims and walking through walls.
However, some Simmers have encountered a glitch where non-occult Sims can walk freely from room to room, wandering straight through walls without a care. The issue has mostly been erased via patches, however, and Sims now tend to stick to their earthly constraints.
5 Snowing And Raining Indoors
Sometimes The Weather Can't Be Kept Out
The Seasons pack is beloved by fans for adding weather and lots of new elements into the game, including activities like ice-skating and snowball fights, as well as a whole range of super-fashionable looks for CAS lovers. Seasons adds a much-needed level of unpredictability to the game.
10 Best Cozy Games With Dress-Up Elements, Ranked
A relaxing game with a strong focus on customization and dressing up a character has proven to be a winning formula countless times.
For quite some time, owners of the pack have been experiencing weather that goes far beyond unpredictable; for many, it’s been raining and snowing indoors. Thankfully, Sims haven't been freezing to death as a result, and a fix has been promised in the next round of patch updates .
4 Au Pair Overload
Having More Than One Infant At Home May Cause An Avalanche Of Nannies
Many an exhausted Sim has found some relief when their benevolent overlord has chosen to hire a service to help around the home, whether it’s a personal chef, cleaner, or a nanny to help with childcare.
Nannies, however, have never been overly attentive. Some Simmers have also encountered a bug where multiple nanny NPCs will arrive on the property at once, all cluttering the home and hovering around Sims' little ones. It’s a case of too many cooks in the kitchen, and many nannies have found themselves getting unceremoniously fired due to this glitch.
3 Humanoid Hugs
Kids And Their Pets-What's Not To Love?
What could possibly beat a warm hug from a terrifying, anthropomorphic fuzzy friend? The Cats and Dogs Expansion Pack is beloved by many Simmers, though it came with one particularly memorable glitch.
The glitch occasionally turns what is otherwise an adorable hugging animation into something both hilarious and horrifying, as pets stand up on two legs and stretch into a frightening faux-human shape to share a hug with their beloved young family members. It's truly a memory for little Sims to treasure and relive in their nightmares forever.
2 Peeing Fire
Burning Up In The Bathroom
Of all the peculiar bugs that have plagued Simmers over the years, one of the most entertaining is the ability that some Sims possessed in 2020 to pee fire after an update released around the time of the Eco Lifestyle Expansion Pack.
Far from being alarmed, Sims seemed perfectly unbothered by their toilet bowl erupting into flames. Thankfully, the bug did not cause homes to set ablaze, and there was never any need to call in the fire brigade before it was fixed.
1 Judgment Day For Farmyard Friends
A Visit From Grim Can Wipe Out All Farm Animals In One Fell Swoop
One of the most bizarre bugs in The Sims 4 is exclusive to Simmers who own the Cottage Living Expansion pack, which allows them to take up residence in the charming town of Henford-on-Bagley to learn home-grown cooking and raise farm animals.
However, some players have found that the Grim Reaper may come to collect his dues in a very efficient fashion— by taking every animal a Simmer owns to the green pastures beyond the clouds all at once. To make matters worse, there is no option to beg for mercy.
