Electronic Arts has shared a big batch of new info about Skate, detailing the game's customization options, live-service content model, and soundtrack, among other elements. The move arrives mere weeks ahead of Skate's early access launch.

The fourth mainline entry in the long-dormant skateboarding franchise, Skate is developed by EA's Vancouver-based Full Circle Studio. It was originally announced in June 2020 and later confirmed to have been envisioned as a free-to-play live-service offering. The game is currently planned to launch in early access in late summer 2025, though its exact release date is still pending confirmation. As of today, it's already in closed alpha.

New Skate Game Has Broken a Record for EA and It's Not Even Out Yet

EA's Skate reboot, which is currently in its closed alpha, has set a new record for the company despite not even being in early access yet.

The Skate team has now reaffirmed the game's late summer launch, in addition to sharing some more details about what fans can expect from its early access phase as part of its latest developer diary, officially called The Grind: Vol. 5. The main takeaways from the new info batch include the confirmation of a robust character customization system, over 100 music tracks, and an evolving seasonal content model.

Skate Promises In-Depth Customization

As is to be expected from a live-service title, customization will be an integral part of the upcoming game. In addition to a robust character creator allowing for countless combinations, Skate players will be able to dress their character from head to toe and go wild with skateboard customization. Cosmetics will be unlockable through activity rewards and purchases. Completing Challenges and Mission will reward Rip Chips, a special currency not obtainable any other way. RCs can be used to open loot boxes to get random gear and up one's Rip Score, which will help with unlocking even more clothing and equipment, including hats, helmets, shoes, pants, deck sticks, and grip tape.

Skate Soundtrack Aims To Showcase Emerging Artists

Skate's soundtrack has been confirmed to feature over 100 tracks at launch. The game will aim to showcase emerging artists, and will also allow players to favorite songs and playlists. Top community picks will be featured as part of the ever-evolving San Van Jams playlist. Some tracks will be collectible within the game world, hidden in locations such as cars and skate spots, and can be picked up with a button prompt. More music will be added to Skate as the game evolves, being planned to arrive as part of regular seasonal content drops.

Skate Seasons Will Be Around 3 Months Long

Besides music, future Skate seasons will introduce new events, cosmetics, features, and even changes to the game's world. Limited-time content will be unlockable via a battle pass system called Skate Pass, which will have both free and paid tiers. Full Circle plans each season to be around three months long, so that it can hold four per year on average. The first season will kick off shortly after Skate launches in early access at the end of summer. More information on this front is promised to arrive as part of The Grind: Vol. 6 in September 2025. In the meantime, Full Circle has confirmed that Skate's early access will be entirely free to play, much like the game itself, and that it will support up to 150 players per server.
