Gamers are reporting that they're having server and connection problems with Skate. Unfortunately, these issues are landing on Skate's early access release date, frustrating and discouraging players who have been eagerly awaiting the game.
After fifteen years with no new entries in the franchise, and five years since the game was initially announced, players have been extremely excited for the release of EA's Skate. Unlike the series' prior games, Skate is free to play, which has no doubt led to a lot of players checking it out right away. Unfortunately, it seems like EA may have underestimated the excitement the audience had for the game.
Skate's Art is Already Causing Quite a Stir
A lot of details are starting to emerge about the upcoming Slate reboot, with some renewed glimpses of its art style being quite contentious.
EA's Skate Has Launch Day Server Issues
Skate launched in Early Access on September 16, and almost immediately, players started reporting connection and server issues while trying to play the game. So far, gamers have complained about extremely long queues, with screenshots being shared of players waiting with over 25,000 others supposedly in front of them. Another player said that they were put into the queue with over 50,000 players ahead of them. The wait has gone on for so long for some fans that they've openly expressed that they're giving up for the day, and are hoping things improve after the initial crowds die down.
Even those who have managed to download Skate and get past the queue, however, haven't had a smooth experience. Many players have complained that they've been hit with connection errors that have sent them right back to the queue, while others have dealt with infinite loading screens after completing the tutorial. Another gamer noted that after waiting in the queue until it was their turn, the game then claimed they had no internet access, and put them into an even longer queue.
Numerous players have taken the opportunity to call out problems with online-only games, especially given prior entries were available to play offline. It's not uncommon for highly-anticipated games to see a long queue in the early days, but as some would-be players have said that they aren't interested in the online features at all, it makes these connection issues even more frustrating. Thankfully, players should see some improvement soon. The Skate development team quickly became aware of the demand for the game, and indicated that they are adding more servers to improve queue wait times. As of publication time, it looks like more players are having success getting in and trying out the game, but some players are still experiencing problems maintaining a connection.
