Players looking to obtain upgrades for their ship, create certain items, and even craft ammunition early on in Skull and Bones will need to get their hands on a resource called Bog Iron. This material is abundant in the starting area near Sainte-Anne (the first port after players exit the tutorial area and are given access to the High Seas themselves). Bog Iron can be refined into ingots and players will need it if they wish to make new cannons and ammunition for them, making it an essential material for the early game.

How To Find Bog Iron In Skull And Bones
Players are able to find Bog Iron fairly easily using their handy Codex. Once players have access to the Codex (which is accessed by opening the map and selecting the Codex icon at the top of the screen (it looks like a logbook of sorts, also known as the Knowledge Tab), they can open it and navigate to the Raw Materials section, and then select Bog Iron (it's the first of the ore icons in the book). Here, players can hit the appropriate button to track the material. Once the tracking has been activated, players can simply return to the map to see any nodes in the area that may contain Bog Iron.
It's important to note that, although the map will show Bog Iron deposits in the area, it does not guarantee that the nodes are replenished and readily available. Players may need to wait a bit for the nodes to respawn if they have already been taken, or simply come back at a later time. Those who need Bog Iron to progress can try to quit to the Main Menu and then load back in, in an attempt to get a different World Instance that may have the Bog Iron readily available.

How To Collect Bog Iron In Skull And Bones
To collect Bog Iron in Skull and Bones, players will need to build at least a Level One Pickaxe. This can be done at the Carpenter in Sainte-Anne (it's part of the main tutorial players will undergo to progress the story and can be done simply by following the main questline). Once players have the Pickaxe, collecting the Bog Iron is as simple as heading close to a gathering area on the map and hitting the Gather key. This will begin a mini-game in which players must try to press the button prompt as a meter moves between yellow and green zones. Hitting the green zone will reward players with as many resources as possible from the node so it's best to aim for it each time.
