There are plenty of islands to explore, loot to plunder, and enemy ships to sink in Ubisoft's Skull and Bones, as well as a plethora of upgrades and boosts to equip to help you rise in infamy to becoming one of the most notorious pirates in history. Among those sources of strength are Pirates' Bonfires, which are extremely useful when in combat with a formidable opponent, so it is worth knowing how to find and use them.

In Skull and Bones, you will have to face the many dangers of the sea, some of which may prove to be too much for your fully customizable ship and its crew. If you are expecting to encounter a particularly tough battle, then using a Pirate's Bonfire could mean the difference between making it back to shore in one piece, or joining the other victims of the sea on the ocean floor.

How to Find a Pirate's Bonfire in Skull and Bones

The map in Skull and Bones showing a settlement with a Pirates Bonfire

Pirates' Bonfires are structures that can be found in many settlements throughout the world in Skull and Bones. They serve a purpose similar to a lighthouse and can indicate to distant ships that there is an encampment there. In the context of the game, they are totems from which you can interact with for a stamina bonus on the sea, which may help you get out of a combat encounter with an enemy ship.

While they don't have a specific icon on the game map, Pirates' Bonfire are relatively easy to find as they are always found in established settlements. In order to find one that is available for use, you will simply need to hold your navigational cursor over a settlement and the information pop-up will indicate if a Pirate's Bonfire is present and whether it is available to claim or active.

How to Use a Pirate's Bonfire in Skull and Bones

Once you have found yourself in a settlement where a Pirate's Bonfire stands, locating it will generally not cause you too much trouble as you simply need to find higher ground. Not only that, but they are easily identifiable as they are always on fire, so look up and spot the source of flame and smoke as you arrive at any settlement.

Using a Pirate's Bonfire is a simple process which requires only approaching the structure and pressing the indicated button to interact with it. Once prompted, your character will throw powder at the bonfire, causing the totem to flash and change to a green color to indicate that it is now active. Once active, you will receive a stamina regeneration boost when exiting combat for the next 20 minutes, provided you remain in relative proximity to the bonfire.

How to Earn The Explorer Trophy/Achievement in Skull and Bones

Like any major console title, Skull and Bones features an extensive list of achievements or trophies, one of which is relevant to Pirates' Bonfires. The Explorer achievement is awarded to players who have 3 Pirates' Bonfires active at the same time. If you have a handle on how to locate these structures, it is a very achievable objective.

To complete the task and receive the in-game trophy, you will need to interact with 3 different Pirates' Bonfires within the 20-minute time limit that is triggered when you activate the first one. The simplest and most efficient way of achieving this is to fast-travel from one location to another, but, given you have 20 minutes to achieve this goal, it could also quite easily be done by setting sail and traveling between settlements if you prefer.
