The fan project Skyblivion, which will remake The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion within Skyrim's engine, has released a new development update. The Oblivion remake project is still working towards a 2025 release, bringing a refreshed and reimagined version of the world to life.
Oblivion fans were thrilled when it was announced that the game was getting an official remaster, and Oblivion Remastered has largely delivered. However, the Skyblivion project, which has been underway for over a decade, is still carrying on. The two titles will deliver unique experiences from one another, as Skyblivion has grown to become more than just a simple remaster.

Skyblivion Shares Progress Report
Skyblivion is now in its final stretch of development, and has released a new developer diary to showcase what's been in the works. As the video notes, Skyblivion has grown substantially to the point that it's not only recreating assets with modern graphics, but it's also tried to restore elements of Oblivion that were scrapped before it released back in 2006. One major example of this is that Sutch has been expanded from the fort it appeared as in the standard game. Sutch was originally intended to be a city, and the Skyblivion team has been working to restore it, albeit to a destroyed city. The Chapel of Kynareth has been added to the city, giving it a Patron Divine of its own.
The established city of Anvil is also getting a significant overhaul. Looking to original concept artwork for inspiration, the Skyblivion team has redesigned the Anvil harbor and expanded the docks outside the town. Lelles' Quality Merchandise has been moved into Anvil, and a new Alchemy store has been added in the form of Tide and Tonic. The video shares a brief walkthrough of what changes players can expect of the new and improved Anvil.
Skyblivion is also fleshing out the Deadlands, splitting them into two biomes. The Burn contains the fiery prototypical areas, while The Sever has been added, which is based upon its appearance in The Elder Scrolls Online. Unlike The Burn, The Sever is constantly under siege by lightning strikes. The pool of randomly selected worlds has also been expanded from Oblivion's original seven to a whopping eleven. This has all been largely done to help reduce repetition and monotony.
While Skyblivion isn't ready for release yet, the team is getting close, and has promised to showcase The Imperial City next. With 2025 already half over at the time of this video's release, fans won't have to wait much longer for the game to finally be a reality.
