A hardcore fan of Bethesda's Skyrim has recreated the major city of Dawnstar using the Far Cry 5 engine. The work has been shared online, gaining praise from several gaming communities.
Dawnstar, located in the northern Skyrim hold known as The Pale, can be distinguished by its two mines and humble harbor. Despite the settlement being portrayed in 2011’s The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim as having only a dozen or so buildings, Dawnstar is considered a major city, and it is actually the regional capital of The Pale, housing Jarl Skald the Elder.
Netizen Mojo Swoptops has taken the core area of Dawnstar in Skyrim and reimagined it in Far Cry 5's map editor using an Xbox Series X. Mojo Swoptops uploaded a 5-minute YouTube video of the reimagined Dawnstar in vanilla Far Cry 5 that featured a first-person stroll. Mojo Swoptops also shared their work on the Elder Scrolls, Gaming, and Skyrim subreddits, where community members praised the reimagined Dawnstar for its looks and attention to detail. The atmosphere of the presentation paired with Skyrim's soundtrack gave the impression that what Mojo Swoptops made was a true remaster of Dawnstar and not a simple recreation. However, it seems Mojo Swoptops's recreation of the area did not include other nearby features like the Dawnstar Sanctuary, a base for the sinister Dark Brotherhood assassin faction, or the Nightcaller Temple.
If Mojo Swoptops' name sounds familiar, that's because they recreated other Skyrim cities in Far Cry 5 in the past, including Falkreath, Riften, and Riverwood. Mojo Swoptops' newest recreation is no different from their previous works, perfectly capturing the look and feel of Skyrim's Dawnstar in a completely different game.
In addition to cities from Skyrim, Mojo Swoptops has also recreated locations from other franchises such as Fallout and Elden Ring using the Far Cry 5 engine. They have work derived from real-life sites as well, such as a Waffle House branch, WWE arena, and St. Mary's Basilica in Poland.
Ubisoft's Far Cry 5 received a sequel three years after its 2018 release, but no map editor was ever released for Far Cry 6. The latest mainline Far Cry game also never received an arcade mode. These omissions allowed Ubisoft to focus on Far Cry 6's campaign, the developers claimed. Despite being older, many people continue to go back to Far Cry 5 for its map editor and arcade mode. This is evidenced by the likes of Mojo Swoptops, who continue to share their Far Cry 5 creations online.
