Skyrim has kept fans entertained for over a decade. Players can get lost easily in the gigantic open world, whether playing for the first time or jumping back in for the 10th anniversary edition. It's a good idea to buy a home in one of the major cities. Players can use a home as a base where they can store items, cook food, and visit the Dragonborn's spouse if they are married.
Players need to become the Thane of a particular hold before purchasing property in that area. Solitude is the capital of Skyrim, so players need to do more than other holds to gain the title of Thane. This walkthrough will show players how to become Thane of Solitude, while avoiding some bugs.
Clear Wolfskull Cave
Players must enter the Blue Palace to start the Thane questline. Varnius Junius will be asking the court for help with a cave near Dragon Bridge. Do not interrupt this conversation, as it may break The Man Who Cried Wolf quest. When Varnius has made his plea, speak to Falk Firebeard to get the quest. If Falk does not have the required speech option, head to the Winking Skeever Inn and ask for rumors to get a task that can start the quest. If players have begun the Tending the Flames quest for the Bards College, they may need to complete it to get Varnius to speak to the court.
Once Falk has given the player the quest, visit Wolfskull Cave. There, the player will find a group of necromancers attempting to summon an ancient evil. The cave has some Draugr and Necromancer enemies. Expect the necromancers to do decent spell damage to the Dragonborn but have very weak armor. Stop the ritual and return to Falk for a reward.
Visit the Shrine of Talos
Speak to Jarl Elisif, and she will ask a favor of the Dragonborn. The player must take her husband's war horn to the Shrine of Talos.
The shrine is located above Shimmermist Cave to the east of Whiterun. Place the horn on the altar and return to Jarl Elisif.
Buy Proudspire Manor
Players can then buy the most expensive house in all of Skyrim. Proudspire Manor can be purchased with 25000 Gold by speaking to Falk Firebeard.
Assist Five Citizens
The last step to becoming a Thane in every hold is by helping the citizens in the area. Players must assist five citizens and buy Proudspire Manor to become Thane. Return to the jarl to receive the title and the Blade of Haafingar. These are the citizens who need help.
