The longevity and replayability of Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is something that has rarely been replicated in video games, with many still putting countless hours into the title some near 13 years after it was first released. The game boasts an incredibly expansive map, including a completely separate off-map region called Solstheim, which was added with the Dragonborn expansion.
With a new region came a wealth of new enemies, NPCs, settlements, and resources for players to interact with. For those who made it to the mushroom-shaped homes of Tel Mithryn and interacted with the sorcerer Neloth, there is a special resource that the wizard desires and players will need to acquire. If you are struggling to find it, then this guide will direct you on how to find Heart Stone in Skyrim.

How to Get Heart Stone in Skyrim
Thankfully for those who have triggered the "Heart Stones" side quest in Skyrim, the resource is not difficult to locate from where the mission begins. Neloth explains that he needs the stone for his studies which, provided you have a pickaxe in hand, you'll be able to grab in just a few short minutes.
To harvest Heart Stone, players will need to exit Tel Mithryn and venture to the left of the settlement. Tucked in to the side of the Tel Mithryn Kitchen building is an ore with bright red streaks on it, which is the Heart Stone you require. To harvest it, simply approach the ore and press the indicated button to mine it. Neloth only requires one Heart Stone, but you can mine more of the resource for your own personal use.
As Heart Stone is a resource specific to the Dragonborn expansion, players can expect to find the resource in several other locations throughout Solstheim. While there are plenty more areas to locate them throughout the island, here are a few other places you can find ores;
- Broken Tusk Mine
- White Ridge Barrow
- Coldcinder Cave
- By Dusty the Silt Strider, who is a short distance from Tel Mithryn
Where To Find a Pickaxe in Solstheim
Players that don't currently have a pickaxe on them to mine the Heart Stone ores can choose to craft one if they have the resources, but they can also be easily grabbed without crafting. Regardless of the method you use, you'll need to fast-travel back to Raven Rock to acquire a pickaxe.
If you have the resources, you can visit the blacksmith in the town center and use his forge to make one, as he unfortunately doesn't sell any himself. With that said, while it doesn't appear that you can purchase a pickaxe in the town, there is a nearby mine where you can take one. At the fair end of Raven Rock, you can enter Raven Rock Mine, where you will find a pickaxe. One spot you can find one is by walking straight ahead as you enter, and go down the stairs. There is a pickaxe on the table at the bottom of the stairs.
Heart Stones Quest Rewards
While "Heart Stones" is not an overly time-consuming and difficult quest to complete, it still comes with some moderate rewards. Once players part ways with the resource by giving it to Neloth, they will receive 250 Gold for their troubles.
