Mehrunes Dagon is one of the Elder Scrolls series' most iconic enemies, though some lore suggests he isn't necessarily as evil as most Tamrielic religions describe. Nonetheless, he is the Daedric Prince of Destruction and was the main antagonist of Oblivion hundreds of years before Skyrim, where he sought to merge Nirn with Oblivion by bypassing the Septim bloodline and the Amulet of Kings.
One aspect of Mehrunes Dagon that is less talked about, though, is that he is also the Daedric Prince of Revolution and Change. Mehrunes Razor is a dagger, which might not immediately seem like a fitting weapon for a god of destruction, but its effect symbolizes upheaval and change despite the odds – long before Skyrim, the Mythic Dawn cult nearly brought Tamriel to its knees, after all.

Mehrunes Razor is a one-handed dagger that deals the same damage as a Daedric Dagger but weighs significantly less. Its special effect is that it has a 2% chance on hit to instantly kill a foe. This works against just about every NPC in Skyrim, except those considered important and are made unkillable by the game.
Its use as a normal dagger is limited, though, as it can't be enchanted with effects beyond its innate one, and though it weighs less than most others, Mehrunes Razor isn't reliable enough to warrant use by a stealth character. It's an item that most players will use a couple of times for the novelty, but hardly ever makes its way into a build. Nonetheless, it makes for a good display and a good story.
How To Get Mehrunes Razor
Mehrunes Razor is, as the name suggests, the Daedric Artifact of Mehrunes Dagon. Players must complete his questline "Pieces Of The Past" which starts in the unassuming city of Dawnstar (players can also take on Vaermina's quest here). At level 20, the Dragonborn should receive a Museum Pamphlet from the courier inviting them to the Museum in Dawnstar.
Head to Silus Vesuius' house, which can be easily found at the end of the city marked with tall red banners. Talk to Silus, who directs players to recover 3 of the 4 missing pieces of the Razor. After this is done, Silus meets players at the Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon. Here, Dagon tells the player to kill Silus, after which he bequeaths the Razor to the Dragonborn and gives them one last test – a fight against two Dremora.
