For those who like a mixture of fantasy and science fiction, there's a new mod for Skyrim that essentially adds in the laser blasters from Star Wars so fans can have a bit of George Lucas' universe within Tamriel. It can't really be overstated just how influential The Elder Scrolls 5 has been, especially in the RPG genre. It may have aged at this point, having originally released back in 2011, but its impact on the AAA gaming industry is still being felt to this day.

When it comes to video game franchises, it's possible for two or more worlds to collide to form some sort of super game. Capcom has been known to release crossovers in its time, blending multiple titles from its back catalog. As such, the modding community is also quite keen on turning the likes of Skyrim into something that's a bit different by incorporating aspects from other pop culture IPs.

A recent example comes from Nexus Mods user Kittytail, whose Skyrim mod "Lasers (Magicka Blasters)" brings a little bit of Star Wars to TES5. Essentially, it adds the blasters from the legendary sci-fi series, allowing fans of the Bethesda RPG to do a bit of "pew pew-ing" when they get tired of swords and magic. The modification comes with eight laser blasters in total, which are craftable at a forge. There's also a video that gives a brief overview of the Star Wars weapons in action, with that distinctive glow from each projectile really selling the idea. The description says there are both one-handed and two-handed blasters, with the latter benefitting from the Archery skill.

This is also not the first time Star Wars has come into contact with Skyrim. There have been a number of occasions in which the two have met. Evidently, there is something about incorporating science-fiction elements into a high-fantasy setting. Of course, over the past 11 years or so, plenty of modders have been tinkering with the Elder Scrolls format, turning the celebrated series into a different beast entirely, which is probably why Skyrim is still so popular even after all this time.

To give some idea of just how beloved the game is today, Skyrim recently hit 60 million sales, showing that newcomers are still wanting a piece of the Bethesda action. It's quite phenomenal to think that a title that spans three console generations is still enjoying a huge amount of popularity. It will be interesting to see whether The Elder Scrolls 6 will be able to boast such a legacy.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Edition is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
