Summary

  • A hidden path from Riverwood to Bleak Falls Barrow in Skyrim was recently discovered, surprising many players.
  • The game's design usually leads players to Whiterun first before the dungeon, making this new path uncommon.
  • Other secret paths in the area, like the one leading to Anise's Cabin, offer players different routes to explore early on.

A Skyrim player online has discovered a hidden path early in the game, noticing it 13 years after its release. Despite almost every inch of Skyrim’s world being traversed over the years, some gamers have yet to see everything Bethesda’s iconic RPG has to offer.

Considering how popular Skyrim has been for such a long period of time, it's incredible that there are still things about the game that some players have yet to find. Skyrim is a game that lends itself well to multiple playthroughs, and encourages players to make different choices each time. Despite this, there's so much content that there's no guarantee a player will discover everything, even 13 years later. A short while back, another Skyrim player noticed a unique lockpicking detail in the game, showing how much depth the game has after all this time.

Redditor Secure_Buffalo_580 shared their discovery, after finding out that the game features a direct path from Riverwood straight to Bleak Falls Barrow, the first major Skyrim dungeon players will encounter. The way the game is designed, most players find themselves heading directly to Whiterun from Riverwood, although they're eventually redirected to Bleak Falls Barrow via a quest shortly after. However, just one change in direction can actually see players take a direct route to Bleak Falls Barrow, a route that very few take, even during repeat playthroughs.

Skyrim Players Can Go Straight to Bleak Falls Barrow From Riverwood

Another user in the thread pointed out that it's not the only secret path in this area. There's also a third path on the way to Skyrim's Bleak Falls Barrow that eventually leads players to Anise's Cabin, so there are a lot of different routes players can take during this early game stage. It just so happens that most find their way to Whiterun by default, making anything else surprising to see.

Although players clearly still have plenty left to discover in Skyrim, the appetite for a sequel continues to grow in the community. The Elder Scrolls 6 has been announced for six years now, yet gamers barely know anything about the title beyond rumors and alleged leaks. The game was definitely announced earlier than expected, and with the wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 set to extend to 13 years in November, fans are left wanting more. The good news is that after Starfield, development on The Elder Scrolls 6 is now in full swing, so the title should be up next for Bethesda.
