Skyrim and The Witcher series are among the most beloved RPGs in existence. Despite being released years ago, the games have retained an active and dedicated player base. Both games have deep lore and a plethora of content that will keep players engaged for hours.
Some players will want more than what the base games offer, and thanks to some excellent mods for Skyrim Special Edition, they'll be able to create a hybrid experience between both RPGs. Some contain content ported over directly from The Witcher 3 while most feature original content inspired from CD Projekt Red's games.
10 EisVogel V2 ENB And Parallax 2020 Textures
While Skyrim boasts some breathtaking visuals of its own, compared to that of The Witcher, they seem dull and a bit dark. In order to bring out the color and vibrance found in The Witcher 3, players will need the help of some graphical mods. The eisVogel v2 ENB by Sevenence aims to change Skyrim's colors, tone, and depth of field to match that of The Witcher 3.
It gives the game a high fantasy feeling, bringing much-needed life to the visuals of Skyrim. For maximum effectiveness, players will want to pair the ENB with the Parallax 2020 mod by Pfuscher that upgrades the world's textures with higher resolution variants. It replaces the blocky textures for much of the objects in-game with sharper, better-looking textures much in line with a next-gen video game. Both mods are resource-intensive, so players need to make sure their systems can handle the load before installing them.
9 TW3 Armor - Geralt Of Rivia SE By Albert8908
To enjoy the full Witcher experience, players must first look the part. While they can attempt to create a Witcher-esque outfit set using the vanilla armor sets, the result will not compare to the excellent armor sets available in The Witcher 3. The mod TW3 Armor - Geralt of Rivia SE by albert8908 ports some of the armor sets worn by Geralt into Skyrim which players can craft and wear.
Players can get several Witcher sets available in different tiers along with a helmet that looks like Geralt's head for the full cosplay experience. The armors are available for both male and female characters.
8 Witcher 3 - Geralt's Dual Swords By AngelSKYSE
A Witcher's most prized possessions are their swords, one blade made of silver to kill monsters and the other made of steel to use against humans. For players wishing to convert Skyrim into a Witcher game, it is crucial to possess a set of master-crafted Witcher swords they can use against their adversaries.
The mod Witcher 3 - Geralt's Dual Swords by AngelSKYSE adds a set of swords to the game which players can craft at any forge. Players will recognize these swords as the same iconic weapons that make an appearance in one of the trailers for The Witcher 3.
7 Monsters By Mihailmods
A Witcher's main income source are monsters which they slay in exchange for coin. While Skyrim provides some monsters that the players can take on, they seem hardly appropriate for a Witcher-style playthrough as they lack the number and difficulty that are required. A series of mods by mihailmods aims to rectify that problem by introducing creatures and monsters inspired by The Witcher series. Players can browse the author's works at their leisure and acquire the mods they feel will work best. However, as a bare minimum, they will need:
- Czarts
- Basikiks
- Water Hags
- Foglings
- Vampire Beasts
- Leshens and Nekkers
- Old Golds of the hunt
- Necrophages
- Rotten Maidens
- Arachas
- Giant Centipedes
- Hyms
- Cyclopes
6 3rd Person Camera Overhaul And Combat Gameplay Overhaul
The Witcher is played in third-person, consequently, many of the mods that convert Skyrim into it are designed to be experienced in third-person camera mode. 3PCO - 3rd Person Camera Overhaul by watang overhauls the vanilla Skyrim camera system from static to a dynamic and smooth feeling one that reacts to the players' movements. The mod makes the third-person camera mode much more responsive and brings it in line with the systems observed in most modern video games.
Players will want to pair this mod with the Combat Gameplay Overhaul mod by DServant which fixes many issues with Skyrim's vanilla combat system and adds several new features. The mod adds responsive dodge rolls, procedural leaning, grip changing features along with modifying the weapon attack animations making them smoother and less stiff.
5 Missives By IronDusk33
Missives by IronDusk33 adds notice boards to all of the nine hold capitals from which players can pick up various radiant quests of different difficulties and rewards. Players will be given courier quests, gather quests, rescue quests, bounties, and retrieval quests by reading the notes which appear on the notice boards.
The quests reset after three in-game days but players can modify it to reset earlier or later via an MCM menu. The mod also adds much-needed life to the world of Skyrim and gives players tasks to complete between major quests.
4 Toxicity SE By BralorMarr
A Witcher's potions are powerful concoctions that allow the consumer to perform incredible feats. Due to the nature of the ingredients used, only a Witcher's body can handle these potions, and even then each potion consumed accumulates toxicity which can have adverse effects when it gets too high.
In Skyrim, players can use as many potions as they want with no consequence.
For a Witcher-style gameplay experience, BralorMarr has created a mod called Toxicity SE which adds a toxicity system similar to that of CD Projekt Red's games. Players can now consume only a limited amount of potions and feel some side effects every time they do so. At higher toxicity levels, the side effects become more intense and may even prove to be fatal.
3 The Witcher 3 Music Overhaul By MWJR
Music can make or break any gaming experience regardless of how good everything else is. The Witcher 3 is well known for its atmospheric tracks that immerse players into the game's world. A mod made by MWJR titled The Witcher 3 Music Overhaul brings the music from the game into Skyrim, replacing the vanilla soundtrack with the one from The Witcher.
The mod makes a seamless integration into Skyrim and works especially well for a Witcher-themed playthrough. Players will want to pair this with a few graphical mods that improve Skyrim's scenery for a full atmospheric experience.
2 Deithwen - Witcher Inspired Home By ImAarwyn
After a long day of questing and slaying monsters, players want a warm bed to rest in. While they can certainly do so at any tavern they can find, having your own property makes matters a whole lot easier. The mod Deithwen - Witcher Inspired Home by imAarwyn adds an original house heavily inspired by The Witcher 3 to Skyrim's capital, Solitude, that players can acquire.
The house comes loaded with the usual refinements alongside guards, a dedicated bathing area, beautiful interiors and, a mount based on Geralt's horse Roach. Once downloaded and installed, players can simply move into the house at their leisure as purchasing it is not required.
1 Tavern Games By Sagittarius22
Tavern Games by Sagittarius22 adds a small collection of minigames that players can play at the different taverns of Skyrim. Like Gwent in The Witcher 3, people will be able to partake in a variety of small games and win some septims in return as well.
To start a game, players need to approach an innkeeper, talk to them, and select the appropriate dialogue option. They will also learn all about the mini-games that are added by the mod including their rules and how to play them. Once players feel they know enough about these games, they can ask the same innkeeper to play a game of their choice.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is available on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
