Summary

  • Gods in Smite 2 are more flexible, allowing players to still use their favorites even if their main roles are taken.
  • Players can excel in each role by mastering the balance between offense and defense for solo or ganking for jungle.
  • Each lane requires a different strategic approach, from aggressive damage output in middle to supportive play in duo with the carry.

Smite 2 has made a lot of changes and improvements since the original Smite, with one such change being to make Gods more flexible in the game. Smite had a more rigid role system, but now a player can still play their favorite God even if 2 of their usual roles are already called by other players.

Smite 2: How To Get Legacy Gems

Players making the shift from Smite to Smite 2 will be rewarded with Legacy Gems. Here's how enable the in-game reward.

By

There are many roles that players can call before a match starts. These can be broken down into playing one of the numerous lanes, or taking to the Jungles between these lanes. Each lane has different rules to be aware of, and if a player goes in unsure, it can mean pulling their entire team down.

6 Solo

Balance of Offense and Defense

Solo Role In Smite 2

When taking the reins to cover the Solo role, the player will need to play a character that can take a hit while also dealing out enough damage to push for victory. The goal of the player with this role is to head for the Solo Lane and destroy the enemy tower within it. A character like Mordred has numerous Auto Builds, including one that is perfect for this lane.

Many characters can become extremely deadly by sacrificing survivability, and this approach can mean losing matches in this lane. The solo lane is all about finding that right balance of survival and offensive output. Players don’t need to be tanky to have high survivability, as they can use debuffs and disrupt their opponents in order to gain an advantage over them in 1-on-1 fights.

5 Jungle

Lurk Between Lane & Gank Enemy Gods

Jungle Role In Smite 2

While all of the game's lanes will have enemy minions spawning into them, the jungles between these will not. Players in the lanes will be able to gather gold and experience from defeating these minions, but players in the jungles will need to find and slay the monsters that inhabit them. The Jungle role will grow stronger as it hunts down monsters and gains buffs, and will be constantly moving throughout the jungles.

Opinion: We Need More Third-Person MOBAs Like SMITE

A lot of third-person MOBAs have come and gone, yet none of them have had the same staying power as the SMITE franchise. It's hard to tell what's made this game so successful — maybe it's the gameplay, the welcoming community, or the casual nature of it all despite being a competitive game. In any case, with rumors that Valve is making its own third-person MOBA, I'm excited to see what the future has in store for this subgenre.

This means there are many opportunities to run into an enemy that is severely damaged, allowing them to pop out and gank said enemy god. Ganking is a term which means to ambush an enemy at the ideal moment to secure a kill. There are many Gods that could come to Smite 2, and who knows which of them will be the next best Jungle role.

4 Middle

Charge In With Everything You Have

Middle Role In Smite 2

The third role is Middle, and is all about having an aggressive approach. Players that take this role are going to want to pump up their damage output and focus on a playstyle that has them dealing out as much damage as possible to overwhelm their opponent. Players with this role will head towards the Middle Lane, and will advance by gaining gold through slaying monsters and enemy minions.

Players do not need a character that has the highest DPS, and can make use of Gods with incredibly heavy-hitting abilities and complex setups. This can be a complicated role to handle, but there is plenty of time for players to get the hang of it while playing the game as early as possible — such as founders playing in the game’s Alpha.

3 Support

Assist Your Allies To Overwhelm The Odds

Support Role In Smite 2

There is one more Lane to be aware of, which is known as the Duo Lane. It is called this because it has 2 Gods that will work together — the first of which is the Support role. Supports can be quite tanky, and will cause a lot of CC effects. CC stands for Crowd Control and will be used to disrupt enemies in the lane.

Smite: God Tier List

Are you curious about the latest God Meta in SMITE? Find out how everything is shaking out in this tier list.

This role will help its ally knock down what it sets up, and many Support role Gods wind up high up on Tier lists because of just how much value they can bring to the team. Many Support role players have spent numerous hours in the original game, and amassed an impressive collection of skins for their players. These skins will not carry over to Smite 2.

2 Carry

Ally With Support To Achieve Victory

Carry Role In Smite 2

This role is also known as the ADC, which stands for Advanced Damage Carry. However, the selection screen for roles simply has this as Carry. While the support will be disrupting enemies and supporting allies, the Carry will be the primary damage output of the two in the Duo Lane. It is their job to fell enemies and take down the enemy tower in the Lane — all while backed up by the support.

Without the Carry, the Support would not stand a chance in the Duo Lane, but with the two of them working together to become greater than the sum of their parts. The Carry and the Middle are both referred to as Damage Dealers, and many players would argue that building a tank is a futile endeavor. However, having both a tanky Support and a tanky Carry that can land a devastating final hit can make for a daunting duo threat.

1 Fill

Rapid Role Changing & Perpetual Threat

Fill Role In Smite 2

There are 5 players per team, and many players will know the above 5 roles well. However, there is one more role offered that some might not understand very well. This is the Fill role, and may very well be the hardest role to master. Players will need to use foresight based on which Gods their teammates have already selected and select a God of their own that can fill any gaps that may arise.

They will then select the Manual build option for their chosen God, buying and selling what they need throughout the game to change their focus at a moment's notice. A well-balanced team will not need a Fill at all, but a team with gaps can easily be salvaged with a well-performing Fill.
