Anime fans can’t get enough of Solo Leveling. This story, following the main character Sung Jinwoo, is filled with action. Solo Leveling is packed with fights in almost every episode, and the pacing is fast, which keeps most fans hooked, eager for more. This series recently won Anime of the Year, which was most certainly a controversial event among the fans, with many considering it undeserved. While Solo Leveling Season 2 was great, one anime deserved this title more, but it wasn’t even nominated.

Solo Leveling is the Biggest Hit This Year

The Series Won Anime of the Year

Solo Leveling’s popularity cannot be understated. This anime, which came out of nowhere in 2024, has won over many fans all over the world. The series has been breaking records and numbers, especially on Crunchyroll. Not only does this series have very high streams and ratings, but it also won many awards during the Crunchyroll Anime Awards of 2025.

Its first anime season was voted as Anime of the Year, but it doesn’t even stop there. Solo Leveling won the most awards that night, with Best New Series, Best Action, Best Main Character, Best Score, Best Ending Sequence, Best Voice Artist Performance (Brazilian Portuguese), Best Voice Artist Performance (Castilian Spanish), and Best Voice Artist Performance (English).

This is all very impressive, and with its second season having come out this year, and being even bigger than its first one, many fans are certain it’s also going to win the Anime of the Year award again next year. This has annoyed many anime fans, especially as there are quite a few series that far surpass it in quality and story.

Solo Leveling is Great, But Orb: On the Movements of the Earth Deserved The Title More

When it comes to pure popularity, it’s hard to argue against Solo Leveling’s success. The story is basic and appeals to a larger audience. However, another anime that came out in 2024 and that deserved more attention was Orb: On the Movements of the Earth.

The nominees for Anime of the Year for 2025 were Solo Leveling, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Dandadan, Kaiju No. 8, The Apothecary Diaries, and Delicious in Dungeon. So, Orb: On the Movements of the Earth wasn’t even nominated for the Crunchyroll Awards, but its story speaks for itself. Orb was one of the most incredible anime series that came out that year, but it not being a combat anime hindered its potential for popularity.

The awards definitely lack diversity when it comes to their nominees, especially as an anime like Orb would have deserved to be called Anime of the Year far more than Solo Leveling.
